Asking the Interviewer why I would not get an offer??
I went through multiple rounds of interviews and will be doing a final round with MDs soon. For the Q&A segment, I plan to ask them: "if after everything, your firm decides not to give me an offer, what would be the deciding reason?"
It's obviously a bold question, but I wanted to get your opinions on whether its too-risky or would it leave a strong impression?
That's retarded, are you down syndrome?
Why on earth would you ask that? You have nothing to gain from it, and you're essentially telling them you think in the back of your mind you aren't good enough to get the offer. Don't do that.
Unnecessary. If you don't get in then move on and find another firm.
Lol initially I thought you were gonna ask after rejection, which may be fine in certain cases. But you want to ask this during your last round of interview with the MD? Wtf, as someone said above, do you have down syndrome?
You would put the interviewer in an awkward position. If I feel awkward after giving an interviewer, I will ding the candidate. Don't do this.
This is stupid. They obviously cannot really tell you why... If it were me and someone were stupid enough to ask me this I would default to "not a great fit" or some bs.
likely result is the interviewer feels awkward, says something like "Umm...well, we have a lot of strong candidates in the pool, so it wouldn't be a poor reflection of you, just how tough the competition is" then he would think you are weird and probably not want to move forward with you.
After showing this lack of social intellect they would not feel comfortable with you talking to any senior members of the team.
I asked "Is there anything which I might be lacking for getting an offer?". Answer was, "I cannot think of anything, you did XYZ and bla bla bla which is quite impressive". Next day I got the call and I accepted the offer.
edit: After reading some of the other comments I think it is important how you structure the question and how you ask it. A "D-dear Mister why won't you hire me?" is obviously not very helpful. On the otherhand you shouldnt appear arrogant. The goal of the question is to get some info on where you have to further explain to the guy why you are so great and the best hire.
I wish more candidates would ask questions like this. It would make it easier to identify the socially challenged ones.
One question that you can answer, though, is "Are there any other questions about my resume or profile that I can answer?" I have used that in the past and am working at one of the banks whom I asked that during an interview.
