Asset-Backed Securitization careers vs. IB
Hi everyone,
I've received an offer from a COAF (Commercial Operating Asset Finance group within Asset-Backed Finance) group at a BB. This essentially means creating and selling bonds that have commercial assets' leases (helicopters, airplanes, containers) as collateral.
The initial analyst offer is similar to IB compensation and benefits, but the workload is certainly lighter, obviously making this group a better option in the short-term. However, does anyone have any idea about life after analyst years?
What are the opportunities out of such a position? What are the exit opportunities? If staying within the bank, what is compensation like within ABF? Are there international opportunities within most banks? Overall, compared to a general IB coverage group, how does ABF fare?
i dont see the correlation between lighter workload and a better short-term option
@"animalz" Because it pays the exact same salary as an IB position, yet encompasses less hours, ABF might be a better decision in short-term. Thus why I am asking about possible long-term benefits.
money-per-hour-wise - maybe but i cant agree still
nway i hope somebody with a good input helps you out with your question
No expert, but do work on the fringe of ABF (same as you, trying to decide whether to pursue ABF or true IB). I think exit opportunities would consist of joining/starting the firms the bank is lending to. They are the people that are really putting the deal together (i.e. going out and finding thousands of container leases during ramp-up, ultimately ending in securitization). From my understanding of ABF, it's an interesting area because while you do a lot of due diligence, you are also involved in the selling of the securities, which may not be the case in IB. I think it's fascinating because if you think about it, how many "experts" do you think there are in some of these obsscure areas like container leases or tax liens. You get good at one of those and start your own company and you'll be rolling in the dough.
