Associate, Switching Analyst
Hi:
I have been working as an ER Associate for about one year now. I hate to say it, but I really don't enjoy working with my analyst who has made my life miserable for the past 12 months.
There are quite a few other ER Associate openings in my city and I am seriously contemplating switching analyst. Part of me keep telling myself maybe I should ride it out, but I know I will not be happy nor productive in the current environment. Can anyone give any pointers on how to switch analyst, I know it can and have seen it done numerous time, but how do you manage that transition? What do you even say to the person in the interview on why you are switching to another firm doing the same shit?
Any comments or general insights on this situation would be great. I would really appreciate anyone who can share some perspective. I really need some right now.
Thanks,
If you really hate your analyst and want to stay in ER, just lateral to another bank. If they ask you, just talk about the positives of the prospective bank, maybe something like you want to cover a new sector, want to move to a bigger / smaller firm, or want to cover bigger / smaller names.
Chances are the analyst you talked to has worked for shitty analysts before, been through the financial crisis, been fired from a job, lateraled multiple times himself - nobody is going to cast judgement on you for leaving after a year.
In the same position, key is to not end up in the same situation again...challenging to gauge during interview process. I feel you though.
Similar situation. Is it difficult switching to another sector though?
I would almost feel it's easier switching to another sector than switching analyst in the same sector. The first reason is more logically permissible whereas the second is a people related issue that may make the interviewer more wary. But it all depends on how you spin it at the end.
After being at a place like this, I have truly learned that the people you work with is, at least for me, a huge consideration for employment.
People lateral to other sectors (in other firms) all the time. You should be able to switch relatively easily.
