Shalom and howdy, my fellow primates! I'm facing a serious dilemma and could really use some advice. Anything I can get really, any input that would help me make up my mind - I'm on the fence here and kinda afraid of making the wrong decision.
I'm currently a pre-MBA consultant (A/BA) at one of the MBB offices in the developing world. The plan is to go for an M7 MBA and then get a job in the US. I have a permanent residence permit, thus Visa is not an issue. I also have a really strong GMAT and a couple of interesting talking points in my biography, so hopefully should get into at least one or two schools.
The question is whether I should do it this year (apply for matriculation in 2016) or next year (for matriculation in 2017). The real question behind this question is whether I would be able to get a good post-MBA job with just 2 years of post-undergrad pre-MBA experience. Or would it be a significant disadvantage compared to if I had 3 years. Everything else being more or less equal I would of course prefer to go sooner rather than later.
If I'm able to get sponsorship from my firm and then stay on full-time at one of the US offices, I would be perfectly happy, but otherwise I'm going to have to recruit for corporate jobs, and I'm not sure if 2 years of experience is going to be enough. I haven't yet figured out whether I want strategy/finance or more operational roles if I go this route, so both options are on the table.
Besides these two years I have a pretty strong internship track record (about 1-1.5 years combined at a top F500 strategy/marketing group and the same MBB I'm working for now). I've also served in the army for 1 year before undergrad (enlisted/conscripted).

I would matriculate in 2016. 2y + c. 1 to 1.5 y internship, + 1y military is pretty decent. Unless that third year is to do something that dramatically changes your profile, I would go for it. IMHO.

One thing that 3rd year could add is working at a different country for a year (intra-firm mobility programs), not guaranteed though. The reason that makes me want to go asap is that I'm pretty old for this amount of experience - would be 30 when I graduate in 2018, assuming I matriculate in 2016. European 5 yr diploma + army time.
That's a good personal reason to defer. However, from a professional profile stand point, I think you're good. Like Stacy said, I think the average entry age for MBA is between 27 to 28 now?
