Back from an awesome social mixer

I just got back from a really awesome social event, sponsored by a group called "Ivy Plus." It aims to bring together alums of ivy league and other top schools. It started fairly recently. Tonight's event was held at an upscale lounge, with great turnout. I usually hate "networking" events, but this was casual, and it was particularly awesome because I had a lot in common with the people there. Most times I go out to a bar, and I have to dumb everything down to have a conversation that lasts more than a few times. Lol.

I also met several M7 b-school alums, who gave me their take on the social experience at b-school. EVERY single one of them said it was the best 2 years of their lives.

I can't fucking wait until next month's Ivy Plus social.

Brady is so smart he has to dumb down conversation at bars? I don't know what kinds of bars you're going to but I think you view yourself a little too highly. You're probably trying to talk to social fun people about boring shit. I consider myself intelligent and have great conversations with people of all intellects. It's a sign of social calibration and maturity to be able to converse with anyone. You really need to get over this whole air of elitism and obsession over status.

Ha. I think you and others have misinterpreted what I wrote. I was drunk when I wrote this, so I guess it didn't come across the right way. I just meant that it's great to meet people I have a lot in common with, whether that's at bars or anywhere else. That's all. I mean I love talking about sports and other random shit as much as the next guy.

Let's not forget these two comments from the master troll himself yesterday:

"Fair question. It's just the way I am. I'm always looking for the next goal or achievement. Even when I'm out at a bar, I'm thinking about ways to improve my b-school application and how much fun i would be having at a top b-school."

"I'm a lot older than you. Can't afford to "not give a fuck." But every time i've tried to not think about b-school it always comes up. Like yesterday i was at work and got an e-mail from a friend who got off the wharton waitlist. I felt so emotional about not being there that i had to excuse myself from the desk to get composed. Or I would be at a bar, and it sucks, and i fantasize about the badass parties and travelling my hbs/wharton friends are doing."

I don't really care about social status and nor do I have a problem picking up girls, but in some way I empathize with you Brady. I go to a school where kids are so fucking unintelligent and unambitious that I can not stand it. Most of these kids have no idea when I tell them about the name of the country I am from, and most of them dream of becoming cops, firefighters or nurses. Nothing wrong with that really, but everyday I tell myself how better life would be if I went to a school with intelligent kids.

Bro if you have to dumd down your conversations its time to stop talking about DCFs or nano biology or some shit. Seriously if you can't go out and talk to people about normal shit I sure as fuck wouldn't want you on my desk or team. Reminds me of this.

Isn't it kind of sad that I have yet to bother figure out how to embed video haha.

That scene always looses some power for me because any sharp bro should be able to tell they're being set up when a hostile stranger approaches to ask such an odd, simple question. Should have just ignored it or dodged it with some ambiguous answer. Just sayin.

And Matt Damon was better in Team America, IMO.

originally when he started it he wanted it to be only ivies :) but im pretty sure he realized if he opened that up he has a much bigger ability to market it to people.

Although the vast majority did go to ivies and other top schools, you obviously don't have to be from those schools to attend. My good buddy went to a no-name school in the midwest, and he had a blast. It's not like these people look down on you just because of your alma mater.

Why would you spend +$100k for "the best two years of your life?" Why not do a quant heavy MFin, masters in economics, cs, or MFE and learn some real skills.

Those programs are not a good fit with what i want to do. And besides, it's a ton of work.
