Bain West Coast Private Equity Experience
I know that Bain does significantly more private equity/ fund advisory work than the rest of MBB, and was just wondering if anyone knew about how much private equity consulting experience you would typically get as an associate consultant out of undergrad. Thanks guys.
0 - 8 months.
Yep, at least in SF there's a lot. Not so much in LA. In fact, the whole private equity practice originated in SF like 20 years ago.
Do Bain associate consultants typically place better into PE/HF than McK/BCG consultants?
Bain = McK >> BCG
If you are interested, you can request to be placed on PE projects, but you'll do probably max 8 months.
Placement as per what pnb2002 said. If you're not only considering consulting, do note that some PE firms almost only hire IBankers.
Thanks, is the option to be placed on PE projects something I should bring up during the interview (or at least allude to)? I'm not trying to do exclusively PE projects of course, but is the option to have this PE exposure be a legitimate "why Bain" talking point?
I am currently at an IB, but am thinking of recruit at MBB consulting for the nature of the work/lifestyle. I understand that consulting might make me less competitive for buy side recruiting but want to get a feel of what PE/HF exit opps are still possible with consulting.
