Barclays Capital Generation Next Sophomore Programs (Diversity Question)
Hey quick question I am finishing up with applying for Barclays' GNSP and I was wondering since it is aimed for targeting underrepresented minorities. Am I screwed because I am a Caucasian male? When disclosing race should I choose the option to not disclose my ethnic background? Thanks I really appreciate it.
You can write not to disclose your race, but they'll find out when you show up for an interview and you're not a "diverse" candidate.
A white male from a non-target school is about as bad as it gets these days, unfortunately
Yeah man. It's ridiculous at this pt. Considering using one of those one-off genealogy sites and finding a diversity candidate in my bloodline from 300 years ago so I can say I'm 1/32 non-white male
Full Disclosure: This is not a troll-post, but possibly a stupid question...
Would being half Egyptian make me eligible for any of these "Diversity" opportunities?
Play the middle eastern card. depending on location within Egypt play the black card
Even if you were 100% Egyptian I don't think you'd qualify as an underrepresented minority. North Africans, for census, educational, and business purposes are categorized as Arab/Middle Eastern/Caucasian. All of which are all well represented in the industry so I don't think you'd count.
Did you end up applying?
Have anyone got accepted yet?
Hello I got accepted yesterday. Does this mean that I already have the summer internship?
How were you already accepted when final notifications aren't until Thursday?
Hey did you get an interview before you got an acceptance notification?
My phone interview is on Thursday for only 15 minutes. I am not sure why I got it early but I just got it yesterday so im sure the rest will follow. Also, they started interviewing yesterday and they end the interviews on Friday. So im not sure if that means anything for people who haven't gotten it yet.
When you did your phone interview, did interviewer introduced him/herself? indicating which firm she is calling from?
I submitted my application on November 25 (the deadline) and had a phone "screen" (interview?) that lasted 20 minutes or so on December 2. I'm new to all of this so I'm expecting rejection. Is this phone interview what you're talking about? Or is this an additional one?
My phone interview did not happen yet, it is going to happen on Thursday. I don't believe this is an additional one since this is the first one I will have participated in. I believe we are talking about the same interview. I wouldn't be worried if I were you since we have made it as finalist. I checked the website and it said all finalist will be notified no later than Thursday. Therefore, if they are still doing screens until Friday (the day after notifications) then I would assume people selected for screens should be in. Yet, I am not absolutely sure of course but this is my logic given the time frame.
*This is not an additional one
Anyone hear back today?
I had my interview today, they said I'll find out tomorrow.
I was notified that Barclays was interested in me on December 4th and had my interview Monday. My interviewer said that they would notify us today. That hasn't happened for me yet so maybe they are running late....?
Do you guys go to target/semi-target/non target schools? If I didn't get an interview, does that mean I have no chance?
do you think folks in non-target are receiving interviews, while folks in target are not?
I'm from a non-target although Barclays has a significant presence at my school. Didn't receive anything. I'm expecting it was a rejection for me.
btw my online application just changed from "Application Under Review" to "Application Submitted", for anyone that cares.
Did it just happen like literally a few mins ago?
So i just got a rejection email..not surprised my phone interview was pretty awkward. I'm from a target school. I did get invited to the final super day at Citi, so hope that goes well. Good luck to you all!
Also the rejection email was certainly a mail merge that referred to me solely by my last name-not even a Mr.
Classy lol
how are you preparing for Citi?
When is your Citi superday? First round already went out?
Yeah, I applied to Citi SOARS. I actually had a phone interview the day after Barclays...so I kinda knew what to expect and how to prepare for the phone interview. I have no idea what I'm gonna do to prepare for Citi. I'll probably prepare really heavily for behavioral questions. Tomorrow's the super day but I can't go because of final exams, so I'll be going to an S&T super day some time next week instead.
Barclays is a platinum employer at my school so hopefully that is helping.
I also just received an email that they are still reviewing resumes and I will be notified on the 16th.
I got an email today saying we will be reached by Monday. Haven't heard anything regarding a phone screening. I'm assuming rejection since I am from a non-target.
I got a call from someone saying that I could be put into Equity Research even though it was my second choice (first choice was S&T). Asian at a target, so I wasn't expecting much..
Left a message saying I was interested and all but lol
Barclays Capital IBD Sophmore Internships/Programs (Originally Posted: 06/14/2013)
Hey, I've been researching internships and programs for sophmores at Barclays Capital and it seems, that you can't apply to any of them if you are a caucasian male, is this true? They normally say this "the program aims to attract and identify high achieving underrepresented candidates (women, african americans, hispanic/latino americans, lGBt, native americans, and students with disabilities)." This pretty much rules out your eligibility, are you still eligible and you are able to apply, but they try to hire these different types of people, or how does it work. Because I'm slightly confused since I want to be able to apply to a internship or program with them as a sophmore and I feel since I am a caucasian male I am not able to apply. If not do they have any positions I could apply to, and are there any other I-banks that have sophmore internships, I know JP Morgan Chase does but that is the most competitive I would assume out of all of them. Thanks for the help I appreciate it.
