Barclays vs Allen & Co (FT)(NYC)

Which is the better firm in terms of culture and PE placement/B-School placement? I know that Allen analysts tend to stick around rather than exit, but just curious.

EDIT: NYC for both

I would say it heavily depends on group and location. If you are speaking about Barclays NYC, I would say it does better in terms of exit ops and thus would choose that offer over Allen. If you are speaking about Barclays outside of NYC, maybe except for Houston, I would go with Barclays.

More detail would help though.

Sorry, my previous post didn't make sense at the end.

Given both are in NYC, I would go with Barclays for exit-opps. I did have a friend in Barclays IBD though who was very unsatisfied with the people and actually left. Make sure you vibe with the respective Barclays group and then go with that, I would say.

I'm sure you've already decided but I'm making this post for people who may be facing a similar decision in the future.

For PE, headhunters pursue BB's very aggressively. On the other hand, I think you would get more exposure to senior bankers at Allen and some of those bankers such as Dan Lufkin, George Tenet, etc. should be able to help you out. You need to be a top analyst for this to even have a chance of happening though.

Some other things to consider - group placement at Barclays. Lifestyle: this varies from group to group at Barclays but my friend at Allen says the lifestyle is good. Of course when deals get rolling, you're going to work hard regardless of the bank you are at.

B School: I think both shops would look excellent for B School. If you are genuinely passionate about media and can convey this in your statements and interviews, you cannot go wrong with Allen & Co
