BB Financial Analyst vs. Mizuho IB SA if End Goal is to Lateral to a Better Bank?
Hey fellow monkeys,
I can either take a summer financial analyst position at a BB or IB SA at Mizuho Bank for my junior summer. My goal is to lateral to IB. Which position would give me more of an advantage for lateraling for a full-time IB position?
If I take the financial analyst position, then it will be easier for me to lateral internally to IBD of that BB. On the other hand, it is not IB.
If I take the IB position, then I won't have the brand name of the BB on my resume and Mizuho is not as notable of an investment bank. Also, I have heard the firm does mainly loan syndication and there seems to be a lot of difficulty regarding communication between the American branch and the HQ in Japan. On the other hand, it is IB.
Thanks!
What group is the financial analyst position in at the BB?
I'll be placed according to their business needs, but the most popular ones are Financial Planning & Analysis and Controllers. The other ones are Treasury, Tax, and Resolution & Recovery Planning.
Mizuho. IB is IB.
Its simple...if you want to do IB you go with the IB internship.
why are you even asking this?
You won't be able to lateral into a front office role within the BB fyi and I wouldn't trust whoever told you that anymore
9 out of 10 times I would choose the Mizuho IB position, the last 1 time would be my occasional bad trip
