BB Internship to IB Internship next year?

I am a sophomore and I have an internship at a BB in there brokerage/WM division. How can I get an internship next summer in there IB division? I plan on killing it and hopefully network with some people in IB. Has anyone done this?

Yeah networking would be key. I know of people who did ops and got into ibd at top firms. It's important to have good reasons why you want to switch though without seeming like you took advantage of the BO role to just get noticed.

There are several routes to go about doing this: 1. Ask your WM boss/peers if they might be able to introduce you to any colleagues they have in IBD as you would like to learn about another side of the business (I will stress DO NOT act ungrateful for the opportunity you have in WM as this can sour your relationship with current peers in the WM division) 2. If your boss/collegues do not have any such contacts, reach out to bankers on your own using the standard email format and internal bank directory 3. Check if there is an internal mobility program (GS does this and I have a friend who moved from GS AM to GS IBD from sophomore to junior year) 4. Talk to HR about your interest in IBD and see if it is possible to line up informationals with bankers, fast-track IBD interviewing with the bank if you have a WM return offer, or simply line up an interview for IBD during normal recruiting season

Finally, the above steps are most useful and effective if you're interning in an office location that also hosts IBD (ex. major regionals such as NYC, Chicago, SF, Houston, etc...). Otherwise, if you are doing ML or MSSB WM in Nowhere, Midwest (no offense, I'm from the midwest) you will have a hard time getting HR or NY/Chicago bankers to take you particularly seriously or meet up with them.

Thank you you all for the input. I definitely agree that I shouldn't make it look like I'm only interested in IB, and that I don't enjoy my current job. Best not to make my interests known, and to proceed with caution when networking with IB. A friend told me to hold off on anything too blatant until the end of the internship. This way I don't create a reputation of being ungrateful and not even interested in WM. Also, once I have done well there, they will be glad to recommend me.
