BBQ Thread

So I'm assuming most of yall out there do not live in a part of the country that values good BBQ: Texas, Memphis, and KC. (Sorry Carolina BBQ pulled pork isn't that great compared to any correctly cooked brisket or rack of ribs, that and vinegar based sauces should stay in wing bars.)

So this is just a call to all those who enjoy the good stuff and like to embrace their inner MAN, laughing at all who dable in a meal of anything but 80% red meat.

What are some of your favorites and lets limit the number of chains and places that do not have actual pits to throw meat on

To name 2 greats in the great state:

Coopers
Hard Eight

North Texas Notables:
Sonny Bryan's
Angelo's
Cousin's

Texas:

Rudy's Goode Company

+1. Especially in Houston. I got tired of Rudy's after eating there so much, but Goode is fantastic all around. Especially the Peecan Pie...mhmm mhmh... Also, that jalapeno bread is scrumptious.

I've never eaten at Rudy's in Houston, but the one in College Station is okay. I grew up in a small Texas town so I know good BBQ.

Mont, get on 59 S oneday and you'll come up to a BBQ place called Hinze's BBQ in Wharton, which is about 45 minutes south of Houston, and stop there. Drive another 15 minutes or so, southbound, and you will come to a place called Mustang Creek BBQ. That place is exceptional.

There is a Hinze's BBQ right outside of College Station...I think. I do recall seeing one in an obscure location somewhere in one of these small 1-red-light Texas towns

I take exception to the NC comment haha. In the spirit of disagreement with your outlines I am recommending a BBQ place in New Orleans. I know New Orleans is known for many things and BBQ is not one of them, however as a southerner I have had my fair share of BBQ (thank you SEC tailgates) and feel well versed in the art of BBQ.

If you are ever in New Orleans and have a BBQ craving go to The Joint. Its a no frills BBQ spot located in the Bywater, think Treme. All the food is smoked outback. They offer pulled pork, chicken, ribs, and some of the best brisket on the planet- no lie.

*Vinegar BBQ sauce is only in the Eastern part of NC

Let the monkey shit fly haha.

i love me some bbq

Decent list, but missing some of the classics:

The Lockhart trio-Black's, Smitty's, Kreuz The Salt Lick Luling: City Market among others Cooper's as mentioned by OP Elgin sausage-Southside Market

Rudy's is good but a chain and not on the level with the above.

If you are in Virginia you have to check out Q BBQ or Buzz and Ned's.

If in Chicago Robinson's Ribs.

I second Dino BBQ in Syracuse as well.

Do you live in VA?

After you get some ribs in Syracuse head on down to Galveston and get some awesome Lobster. Or some solid Mexican food in Portland.

I guess that is a weak attempt at sarcasm since Dinosaur BBQ was ranked as one of the beat BBQ places in the country. Moron.

HAHAAHAHAHA, actually I thought the same thing until I looked it up. Seems decent, I'd try it. Seems like it isn't cheapened up to be able to sell up north though, adding sauce and just making it overly commercialized. How are the sides? they looked ok

Anybody a fan of BBQd tuurkey? Damn thats good stuff

Monty- I've been on a diet for quite some time, and have absolutely shun establishments in favor of my stove. BUT, you got me craving Goode

I'm on my way as I type this, its that damn good! That jalapeno bread has got my name all over it

Also, for you monkeys in NYC, Hill Country BBQ is by far the best around that area. Tell them cheese sent you

haha....what?

The sides are great. I have had a lot of BBQ and god knows I am not partial to anything back in NYC, but Dinosaur is legit. I prefer the one in Rochester over Syracuse, but both are very good.

Anyone who hates Dinosaur is just hating western NY, since anyone who has actually been there knows that very little can compete. A bar fight at the one in Rochester is something legendary. Between there and Nick Tahous (not BBQ), I think I have seen at least a few handfuls of Hells Angels, and some resulting stories that I would prefer to not have any traceable recollection.

Ant, just stating a fact that if you are discussing BBQ the south is where it's at... I am sure there are a few good places in the NE but it's just a different culture down in Texas when it comes to BBQ. Every region has their specialty and clearly the south has BBQ and Mexican. I don't care about some top ten list put together by Guy Fierre, drive from Houston to Austin and eat at any BBQ place (there will be like 20) and you will experience true BBQ.

I'm a huge bbq fan and I also love vinegar based sauces (sorry), but weirdly enough, I put vinegar on everything, pizza, pasta, sandwiches, the list goes on and on.

Anyways, anyone who lives in the Atlanta metro area knows the best bbq can be found at Fox Brothers BBQ...though I've only eaten there once. I got their spare rib special and the first thing that came to mind when the server brought it out was the scene from the Flintstones where Fred's car gets tipped over. Not sure how the table legs managed to hold, but I'm sure glad they did because that was the best bbq I've ever had, bar none.

+1 on foxbros. i go to gatech and try to make it to foxbros for some lunch when im hungover

Sorry for being a bitch in my initial response. I like Fat Bobs in Buffalo also. Down south is obviously king of the BBQ, but I have had some good food all over. Philly has some decent joints.

Kansas City is hands down the BBQ capital of the world. I've had BBQ in Memphis and Texas, and it's good, but KC has more damn good BBQ than anywhere else.

Gates Oklahoma Joe's Arthur Bryan'ts LC's Jack Stack
BB's Lawnside Bates City BBQ
Guy & Mae's McGonigles Fritzs

....the list goes on and on. Not to mention the Super Bowl of competitive BBQ, The American Royal, is held every year in KC. I admit I'm from KC so I may be biased, but if there's one thing KC does well, it's BBQ.
