BCG McKinsey networking dates coincide

I have been a long reader of this forum, thank you all for enriching my understanding of the industry. Today I found myself in a strange situation with the consulting big guns. I am doing Bridge to BCG this summer, and got invited to a McKinsey special networking event. By special I mean that they invited only a few "high potential" candidates. Now, this networking event is on the last day of Bridge. This is a great opportunity to interact with the present consultants in both the firms that I don't want to lose, but I also don't want to ditch one for the other.

Have any of you been in this situation before? What is a good "strategy" for this? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

I'd finish out Bridge. McKinsey will hold multiple invitation only mixers/events throughout the year, but its not the same as doing the Insight program. If you got invited to one event, I'm confident you'll get invited to the next one. In addition, their demonstrated interest should enable you to score some informational interviews, which will allow you to connect with present consultants. Your local recruiter will be willing to help, since they've shown interest in you already as a candidate.

You applied and were accepted into the Bridge program; finish it out and ensure you leave the best possible impression for BCG. Also, you'll likely learn more about BCG and their consultants on the last day of Bridge (a structured program) than you will during a one-off networking event with McKinsey (likely a happy hour at a bar or someone's home).

That's excellent advice, John-Doe8. My own logic has also been telling me that I should completely utilize this opportunity that I will get at Bridge.

I think that this networking event at McKinsey is only for those who were finalists at the Insight program, and I was one of them. I did not get into the program, and, therefore, lost one big opportunity. It seems like they will start interviewing at the end of August, so I wonder if there will be any other chance to network with them before that.
