I forgot to add, it seems like it might at least be a semi-target. Maybe I'm wrong?
I initially thought Bentley and Babson were good schools for finance, but many posts on here and CC say otherwise, as far as breaking into IB (not sure about other fields HF, PE, etc.). I applied to Bentley (EA) and I honestly think I'm going to go with Kelley (IU) based on what people have said about it. Nothing was super positive about the Bentley, though.I'm assuming it is mainly because it really isn't well known outside the NE.
Hi, there. Bentley has a great reputation as a finance school, has exceptional career center, and partners with major firms such as JPM. You will not go wrong applying to Bentley. Ultimately, you get out what you put in.
Here is a quote from CompsBanker on another thread:
Bentley Q and A for finance? (Originally Posted: 07/31/2015)
Rising high school senior: how is Bentley viewed among the finance spectrum on the East Coast? I live on the west coast, and will not be able to tour any of the other east cost colleges: Barnard and Boston College. I really want to apply to Baruch, but its going to be 16k per year and I am from very low income, so I'm afraid I won't be able to afford (Baruch is a city school, so limited financial aid) . I guess in the end I am willing to take out student loans, I just want a job that will pay them off in a reasonable amount of time. ( Like at most three years? lol) Thank you! This will help a bunch! Sorry for all my ignorance!
Yea, I've heard of it. It's part of the 3Bs (Babson, Bentley and Bryant). The three colleges/small universities that solely dedicate themselves school to business. From what I know placement is decent. I would say it's just below semi-target, but well above non-target state school.
Bentley isn't so well-regarded, I'm sorry, typical UCal will win 10 times. what are your goals and why do you must go to Northeast? if your west coast school is as good as Barnard (women's Columbia backdoor eh?), your chance is as good as the others. Of course the commute costs are different, but that's only relevant when you have similar offers to compare.
One of the best ways to tell is to go on LinkedIn and run a search for investment banking / private equity professionals from Bentley (or any other school). I've met a lot (most?) of the bankers / PE professionals in the Boston area and I can count the number from Bentley on one hand. I've never met a Bryant person and I've met a handful of Babson folks. It's not to say you can't be successful coming from Bentley, but you've got an uphill battle for sure. It's like any other non-target, you've got to network hard, know your stuff, and generally be a top performer otherwise you won't make it.
Bentley's definitely decent and it's really up and coming. There might not be direct on campus recruiting but just from using linkedin and snooping through one of my high school friend's profile (who attends bentley), there were more than just a handful of guys from there at the analyst level at Bulge Brackets. People definitely know of it regionally in the boston area, and if you have 3.7+ GPA (with networking) you'll get your shot at banking for sure
Also from personal observation (disclaimer: I'm not in the industry yet) I've found that there a decent number of Babson kids in middle market PE positions in the boston area, but for bulge bracket IBD I'm pretty sure Bentley=Babson in terms of recruiting/prestige and Bryant falls FAR behind
Never encountered a Bryant alum once. Have met some Babson guys in the Boston area, and have a friend from Bentley at UBS.
Just look at the average SAT scores. At this point doesn't affect job placement, but Babson = good, Bentley = mediocre, and Bryant is just terrible.
^^ That comment smacks of jealousy and bitterness. My university, nonetheless a nontarget, is more selective, yet I'm sure all three of those schools have better recruiting/placement.
Woe is me.
For breaking into IB I think you would have a better shot with Bentley than Babson. Sure Babson is a great school, but I feel like they weight their entrepreneurship program more heavily than their finance program, but Bentley puts their finance and accounting programs first and has more resources at their fingertips like the trading room.
Hey I’m late to the convo but I was a recent student at Bentley If you wanna work in finance in Boston go for it. But if you want to work in New York City or anywhere else it’s probably not the best school for you
Care to elaborate? I'm a rising High School Sophomore.
