Best education practice?
Outside of P-EY, who has the best education practice? I noticed that the founder of P-EY's education and PE practices got acqui-hired by OW two years ago.
Are any of the MBB particularly strong in education? I know BCG has a strong pro-bono education practice but that's a bit different in my opinion than the for profit higher ed, edtech, large school system (e.g., PA, NY) consulting done by folks like P-EY. That said, that isn't to say they don't have a wider practice I'm unaware of. Interested in what y'all know. Thanks.

Don't really think there's that much work to be done in the for-profit higher ed or edtech spaces. If you think about the rates that MBB charge, it simply doesn't really makes sense to retain them that often for what will often be through-and-through implementation issues. Sure, there might be that one project every so often, but I don't think you should expect to see too much action there.
Large school systems, on the other hand, might be every so slightly more common because they're, well, large and have very big problems. Just be aware that they won't be of the pure strategy kind that you might see with a retail or pharma firm - it will be a lot of enterprise and functional cost-cutting as well as definition of initiatives to be executed. If you're really interested, my impression is that McKinsey is probably the best of the major consulting firms in this space.
Parthenon-EY is still operating independently within EY and from what I hear the Ed practice is doing really well.
P-EY was the name I had in mind as well
Interesting that this warrants a MS...
Not consulting, but a number of Public Finance shops have higher education, school district or charter school groups. Some FA shops also have a practice. If you want to work with the public/social sector, but want better comp either might be an option.
Hey, this is great, thanks so much for your answer. Any FA shops in particular? I'd love to look at some examples. Same with public finance groups really.
For that matter, what does the work look like in this space? Thanks ahead of time, this might be what I've been looking for.
For FA: Prager & Co., First Tryon Advisors other big shops include KNN, Acadia, PFM and Public Resource Advisory Group. For underwriters it varies by higher Ed, public schools and charter schools, as well as Geography. So what region and area are you thinking?
Following are the best education practices: 1. Increased capacity and efficiency 2. Improved effectiveness 3. Easy accessibility 4. A competitive mindset 5. The personal touch 6. Learner Reflection
Recommendations for Education Practice people to cold email working at MBB (Originally Posted: 01/25/2018)
Hi everyone, I'd like to do some broader work than I'm currently doing in the education space. I'm doing deals, but I'd like to see some corporate education, school, nonprofit, and government education. McK and BCG do a lot of this, and so does Bain, but to a lesser extent.
Can anyone recommend someone to cold email? Any leads are welcomed and I will do my due diligence before emailing.
Thanks.
Just look on LinkedIn to find people in the ed practices.
I would also recommend reaching out to EY-Parthenon. I am under the impression that they lead the education consulting space, although I can’t exactly verify that.
