Best school to transfer to for IB: Michigan Econ vs. UVA Econ vs. Vanderbilt Econ
I'm looking to transfer and these are the three schools that I am deciding between. I really want to know if one is much better than the other for IB OCR. Also, I want to know how bad it would be if I went to Vanderbilt. I know that many consider it a semi-target, and I have heard that few banks recruit there. If anyone could give me any more info, that would be great. Let me know what you think.
I'd probably say Vanderbilt. If you go to UVA or Michigan, you're competing against kids from the business schools who, in general, are more highly sought after by recruiters.
For UVA though, if you are transferring as a sophomore (2nd year is what it's called at UVA), then if you think you can do well and apply into McIntire, then go for that.
I'm transferring as a junior. Thanks for the advice!
Yea dude although UVA/UMich are generally better schools, it helps to not have a biz school when majoring in econ because you don't have ACCT/Finance majors taking the best finance positions. I would choose Vandy for that reason.
That makes sense, but with Mich/UVA, they will have a lot more companies on campus looking to hire vs. the few that come to Vanderbilt.
True, but at non-Ross Michigan and non-McIntire UVA, you're already starting off down. Not only will you compete against other non-business school students, you will be fighting against students in the business school who are generally viewed more favorably by banks.
I would take Vandy. It's a great school and places well.
Any other input?

I applied to UVA and Vandy as well for junior standing. Have you already heard back yet? I have not. In regards to your question, I recently talked to a Vandy alum and he said the recruitment is meager. In my opinion, UVA econ is your best bet. The UVA name is strong and McIntire isn't as renowned (yet)
Yeah, I was accepted to Vandy about a week ago. Wasn't accepted into UVA yet but I'm weighing my potential options.
Michigan and then UVA in terms of getting ibd jobs... Vandy is not even on the list
Even if I would major in Econ at both Mich and UVA?
not sure if I am qualified to give an op about econ at each. But I know a lot of bankers and I see Michigan before UVA before Vandy. Just the brand name / network is helpful when reaching out to alums / recruiting
Update: Accepted in Vanderbilt. Still waiting to hear from UVA (Econ).
Might just go to Vandy. UMass Amherst --> Vanderbilt...quite the change lol
