They need you just as bad as you need them. Then again, right now the market is pretty saturated with analyst with the lay-offs. I always contacted them. I had I think 4 of them at one point, talking once a week until I found a job (without them) last week.

The advantage also, is that once you get a job, they basically send you emails about other positions before you may even know about them, in case of lateral positions.

Reach out, touch a friend.

Thanks. I've begun speaking with a few of the big ones that called me (sg glocap) so now that I'm taking the meetings and am engaged I was thinking about reaching out to some of the other prominent headhunters instead of waiting for them to get to me.

... www.career-accelerator.com, which is a job announcement service I found out about on BankersBall. I'm a 3rd year Analyst at a BB who is looking to transition into PE, and that is why I signed up for this service. They charge a nominal fee, but the content is incredible. I've gotten 4 interviews off of this site. As for headhunters, my experience with them is the generally suck. They are out to pimp Analysts around and headhunters who are not retained (know the difference between a retained and contingency search) tend to blanket the market with your resume, often without even telling you. This way, even if you get a job on your own, they show up at your employer and ask for a commission, arguing that they put you in the cue and therefore deserve some coin. Ultimately, headhunters are just out for themselves. What I really like about the site I mentioned above is that they send subscribers job announcements that (a) have limited distribution, and (b) almost always provide the contact information of a recruiter inside the hiring company, therefore enabling me to go direct and avoid the often useless headhunter. That alone is worth the $20/month I pay. Anyway, I hope you guys found this insightful. Be careful who you send your resume to.

...I was only trying to share information about a resource that I've used and it has been helpful to me - scored 4 PE interviews over the past 6 weeks...met two firms, two pending meetings but still no offer...sigh. I don't understand why you are getting so pissed off at my posting - chill. Anyway, my experience with headhunters (especially GloCap) have been negative. Maybe you and others have done better, but I generally avoid them. If you know some folks who you think are good, please share information about them...I'm trying to move into PE. Thanks.

Deeshoom, please refrain from spamming your website on this messageboard. Seven posts and at least 4 that I've seen in a quick scan have all been about career-accelerator.com, obviously it's your website. If you would like to advertise through the WSO I'd suggest you contact the administrator and buy advertising space. People come to this website to share knowledge and learn, but attempting to "trick" people into visiting your website insults their intelligence.

I find it interesting that you say you had a negative experience with GloCap when your website is exactly what GloCap does (emailed job notifications using online services vs. meeting face to face with headhunters).

For the record - to the original OP, 99% of all the reputable PE jobs come from three recruiters - SG, Oxbridge and CPI. Feel free to contact them, don't bother with anything else.

...I have no ownership interest in CA. As I stated, I simply shared news of it since it has been helpful to me and to two of my buddies. I heard about it from a member on Banker's Ball. I take offense to your presumptuous allegation of my having some motive to trick anyone, especially since you are wrong! Since you and other folks have such back off, I won't recommend it again, but sharing valuable resources is one component of the "sharing knowledge" that I believe you are referring to above. Career-accelerator, by the way is 100% recruiter free, unlike GloCap, which is a recruiter itself. With respect to GloCap, what I didn't like about them is that (a) you never know who the employer is unless the recruiter calls you and tells you, so effectively you are applying into a black hole at the onset, and (b) the two recruiters I did meet there were fairly junior and didn't really even understand how PE works, which made me question whether they were qualified to represent me to the PE clients that they were "representing" ... I could not tell if GloCap searches were retained or contingency, and received an unclear answer when I asked. I know Oxbridge (and they are good), but I didn't know about SG and CPI, so thanks for mentioning their names - I will definitely look them up.
