Big 4/Law interest
I'm currently a rising junior with internship offers from PwC Assurance and Deloitte Tax. I worked in corporate finance this past summer. I've done well in school (3.9 GPA, lots of leadership/involvement, URM), but I've had a hard time deciding on a service line. I ultimately would like to pursue a JD or MBA after a couple years of working experience. Which company/service line would put me in the best spot to do this/get into a top school? Ultimately, I'd love to break into the public sector and one day get involved in politics, whether it be running for office or managing the finance teams of campaigns/PACs. But I got a full-ride to a state school for my undergrad and Accounting seemed to be the best industry to secure financial stability for me and my family. And I will still be able to graduate with a Poli. Sci. Minor. What are the best options for me at this point?
Work in finance for a few years to get some valuable work experience, then go to law school if you're still set on that. Though you do not need a law degree to manage campaign finance teams (AFAIK), and it is much easier to transition from finance to law than from law to finance.
Either of those should give you a good shot at getting into a top school, however I would lean towards taking the Deloitte offer if you're interested in managing a finance team. If you enjoy the risk and strategy side, the PwC opportunity may be a better option. The Deloitte opportunity may be better if you would be interested in tax law though and are leaning towards a JD as opposed to MBA.
I would be very sure about law before I went that route...
