BlackRock: Take the return offer, or make the leap ?
Hi all,
So I just recently got a return offer from Portfolio Analytics in a major APAC office. I got on great with the team and liked the work well enough, and it was well emphasized that "PAG is an entry point, you can go anywhere in the firm from here". The problem: my family is very against a move to the country in question (their opinion is important to me) and I'm told that the work as an Analyst is very different from my work as an intern. (I did lots of macro research/competitor analyses/advisory type work, whereas the analyst role is said to be much more data analysis/reporting)
But I'd already started the recruiting process for the NY office by the time the offer rolled by, so I'm about to go into first rounds for Product Management and Client Solutions there.
I'm a bit conflicted - should I attempt to renegotiate location for the offer I already have, or should I take the leap and pursue the two new roles? I've got a smattering of contacts and my boss in PAG says he can put in a good word as he knows both groups in NY well. How difficult or easy would it be to hop divisions like this?
In the long run, I want to end up in Product Strategy or Client Solutions in EMEA...well, that's the dream.
Your advice please? Is a bird in the hand really better than two in the bush?
Thanks in advance.
