Bloomberg interview help

Was wondering if you guys could provide some insight/info on the culture, hours, pay etc...
at bloomberg. Have a phone interview tom for a mortgage analyst position...

also could you guys provide some tips for interviewing for this position
what I should pay attention to/read up on? any advice is much appreciated...

thanks in advance.

Qualified candidate will be responsible for new issue postings and the maintenance of these securities through related client inquiries. The data analyst will interact with various product teams in order to ensure the integrity of the mortgage product. The successful candidate will also provide overall support for projects affiliated with loan details that are underlying mortgage-backed securities.

i have a phone interview coming up with them too. it is for a Private Equity M&A Research Data Analyst position

Responsibilities

  • Updating and processing data onto the Bloomberg database in a timely manner
  • Maintaining and enhancing the existing database
  • Responding to client queries regarding the data within tbe region.
  • Initiating research on Private Equity data coverage.

there is more data entries than research/analysis

anyone have any idea about the position? (ops vs research)

thanks in advance

I don't think that your position is legit in and of itself . You can possibly use this position as leverage in a yr or two to move to a more "hands on" role such as HF/PE/ER/BOUTIQUE IB etc.....working at bloomberg (data entry) is by no means GS/ML etc but I guess its something "nice" to have on your resume to show your interest in finance.
Kind of in the same situation as you...want to pursue a MBA couple years down the line... I guess the above mention is my plan it's my personal take on the situation for what its worth...

gluck with the interview!!!

I got a voice mail over a week ago from Bloomberg to set up a phone interview for Global Data summer internship. I've called by 4 times leaving 2 voice mails and I haven't gotten a response. You calls to request a phone interview and then never calls back??

I was wondering how many more interviews for bloomberg positions as data analysts. Phone interview, then a 1-1 interview, what next? and most importantly, how long after the last interview does it generally take for them to reply back? do they call or do they email you? also, what would they be asking you in the next stage? what should one prepare for? Thank you for finding time to answering these questions. all the best to everyone

After applying to BB, I heard back from them the next day. I applied for the Sales and Analytics position. The opening I applied to in London UK, so I don't know how thats going to work out with interviews past the 1st stage, seeing as how I am in Toronto, and they know that since I mentioned that in my CL. Skype? lol

Just a general side note - Would you recommend getting into/ taking a position at BB(granted that I am offered one, knock on wood) if I want to get into equity research down the road? A stepping stone? Or just keep trying to go for ER straight?

I appreciate any insight you guys can give in advance. -NK

anybody else apply / interview yet for the 2010 sales & analytics program at bloomberg?
I didn't apply or anything but i was wondering how hard it was to get a interview? do you go to a top school or have past finance experience?

I don't goto a top school, i went to a SUNY. I have a friend that works there and he said something like 2500 applicants applied and there are only about 20 spots open out of 50 because the other 30 are taken from summer internships / top schools where they recruit from.

I have a few finance related internships but i think they are choosing people based on if they know people in the firm, granted a good resume. so the answer to your question is yeah, i think its going to be hard to get an interview.

I went for their interview for one of the analytics position.. there's like a mini test before the interview.. got to have some accounting knowledge and keep yourself updated with recent news..

as for the interview, was more of behavioural.. nothing technical..

bloomberg is a nice place to work (BEST PANTRY!!!! and very colourful surroundings) but if you are ambitious and wanna earn more $$$, maybe not bloomberg

hope it helps..

I did a global data internship after my sophomore year at Syracuse. Interview isnt difficult at all. all behavioral questions. showing that you have finance knowledge is a plus, especially for global data as you help create new functions for the terminal. Job wasnt 100% for me though I would like to more investing or research....

What kinds of interivew questions do you get? and why would someone choose bloomberg? I just got an interview for next week (not a target school, but I have IB experience at a BB...also don't have any connections).

how did you hear about these opportunities? i only recently started considering bloomberg as a summer option. have all the deadlines passed already? how long did you have to wait to hear back from them after submitting your resume/cover letter?

Hey, I applied for the same position. I was wondering how did it go for you, what questions did you have.

I'm having the online recorded video interview today, so I would be very glad if you could share what you were asked. Any tips would be of use. Thanks!

My first job was in fixed income analytics at a firm that hired in a lot of Bloomberg developers.

Go over data structures and algorithms. You'll get basic questions about programming stuff for linked lists, hash maps, and trees. Maybe you'll see a red-black tree question. If you were a CS or Comp. E major, principles of OO would also be fair game, but if you're a Math major, expect lots of questions on stats, linear algebra, and maybe a calculus problem or two.

Friend of mine did that for a while. They teach you everything you need to know in terms of programming. Apparently training class is pretty intense. You've done programming before, in some language? They will probably ask you to write code to solve problems in whatever language you're familiar with. Also may introduce "new" concepts to you to see how you grasp them (my buddy said he had complexity and pointers), so probably brush up on those, and at least understand them. I think they asked him about linked lists. This is basically an admissions test, since they're accepting you to the intense training class, so they'll want to see how you learn. glassdoor.com is a good resource for this kind of stuff.
