Does he like JW Blue? I think it's a bit of an overkill unless he REALLY went out of his way. I'd probably be a little weirded out. A bottle of single malt would probably be a better choice.
I'd say drop the liquor altogether and go with a box of cigars, likely a box of 10 Romeo Y Julieta tubos. All the traders I know are at least occasional cigar smokers, so I think it's a pretty safe bet.
Ya I think it could be overkill here. That being said, my long-time mentor and actually one of my father's best friends gave me a ton of advice along the way and actually connected me to a few individuals and tried to help me as much as he could even though he has two kids my age who were trying to get into banking as well. I knew that he went out of his way and that his favorite drink is gentlemans jack so I bought him a 5th as a thank you.
In your case I would say maybe something like some cigars or something that you know he really likes if he really bent over backwards. Just know you could go overboard.
Thanks for the help guys. I rarely drink so I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to this stuff. Although this guy is a bit of a baller, I think buying him cigars would be a tad bit risky. Laphroaig seems awesome.
@happy: he put me in touch with the right people without me having to ask him.

Laphroaig 10 yr. Much cheaper and shows better taste.

If he got you a job or a big deal, Blue is ok. Otherwise go with ^
