BMO Sponsor Finance insight?
I'm currently interviewing with BMO Sponsor Finance for an Analyst role and would probably get brought in as a 2nd year. I've spoken with contacts at Golub and Ares and they said BMO has a solid MM group but didn't have much detail. Wondering if anyone has additional detail or any idea of comp? I'm currently in Broadly Syndicated Loan group in a Portfolio Analyst (3rd year) role trying to make the jump to the credit side.
BMO Sponsors - Anyone familiar? (Originally Posted: 07/09/2014)
Hi All,
Would be curious to know if anyone has any insight into BMO Financial Sponsors group in regards to comp and hours. I understand they're more focused on origination vs execution (even at junior ranks) compared to BB's, does this translate to better culture/lifestyle? Any reference points would be greatly appreciated.
NY or Canada?

Bump? Can’t find anything on these guys on the site.
It's a good group, very active overall. The team is split between Chicago and Minneapolis. Originate and execute deals with mostly lower MM sponsors. Deals are typically EBITDA. They usually do deals without lev fin being involved unless they are of the larger syndicated variety.
Curious for detail on this as well, as I'm trying to learn the landscape of direct lending. Does BMO sponsor finance compete for deals against the likes of Golub, Ares, etc.? Do they compete for the same talent? Or do people typically start at BMO and then move to a fund? Any color at all is very appreciated.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but was curious to learn more about this group as I've seen them mentioned in other discussions. I was looking to get more information on the following:
1.) It would be interesting to get some perspective from other lenders or PE groups that have worked with these guys. What is the perceived reputation of this group relative to other direct lenders both in the MM (e.g. Antares, MidCap, Maranon) and larger (e.g. Golub, Ares, Owl Rock).
2.) Can anyone comment on the exit opps from this group? It seems like hardly anyone leaves but was wondering if someone had any other information.
Can anybody comment on comp at Associate and VP level in this group?
On a relative basis, on par with LMM direct lending peers (ie Monroe). Below investment banking and UMM direct lending comp.
What is sponsor finance? Is that the same as sponsors group!
