Futures trading for Dummies (no joke). Google turtle traders and there's a PDF of the rules they used somewhere, that's a good starting point too. Beyond that, depending on what you want to trade google around and try to understand the fundamentals, and how to trade the different kinds of spreads (time spread, etc.) when in contango/backwardation

Ummm ..I need a little more detail so I can more understand what direction to point you in. What sort of time frame do you care to work with? Day trade, swing trade, position trade? I'm not trying to be a d!ck or anything but your question just encompasses a pretty broad area.

Feel free to PM me duke.

monkey - thanks for the suggestion. i found the turtle traders pdf and will look into futures for dummies

bravo- mostly swing trades...i tried position trading a bit in futures but the swings are too crazy and i feel its better to express long term views in other ways...day trading is too hard to find an edge i think...looking at holding periods of days-weeks rather than hours or months.

All 4 books feed off of each other in a cohesive way. I recommend reading in that same order.

"Trading Rules that Work" - Jason Jankovsky "Time Compression Trading: In Zero Sum Markets" - Jason Jankovsky "Volume and Open Interest: Trading Strategies in the Futures Market" - Kenneth Shaleen "Commitment of Traders Bible" - Steven Briese

OR....

If your looking for something as in "right now" because you want to make a trade next week haha "Commodity Traders Almanac 2011" - Jeffery Hirsh & John Person "Master Swing Trader" - Alan Farley

I suggest you take my first route even though it is a long one. Futures and margin calls are nothing to play with. There is a reason CNBC doesn't give this market it's own show like "Option Action". Your account can be wiped out in a matter of seconds and you can owe more than you intial investment.

"Trading Spreads and Seasonals" is a best book for professionals, it has been written by Joe Ross. It deals with reality trading and presents you with dozens of easy to follow charts and graphs, and examples of real-life trades that will refine your trading skills and enhance your performance. It also includes a review of the basic tenets of seasonal trading, seasonal spreads, and outright seasonal futures trades. It teaches you how to conduct your trading as a professional manager of your trading business. Proper management is vital to successful trading. This book points out the fallacies that many traders hold so dear. If you really want to improve your trading business, it's a handy trading book.
