Dress Boots
So, I know shoes have been discussed ad infinitum on the board. But, I'm wondering what the consensus is on dress boots?
Example: http://www1.bloomingdales.com/catalog/product/ind…
Technically, except for the lack of laces they look just as dressy, no? And less work to put on.
Why not just buy loafers? I feel like Chelsea boots (the ones you showed and the like) are like some of the most homosexual shoes out there. Just my opinion, ask around...lol
r u planning to ride a horse to work?
hahahaha, there's a sale on feather boas too, jump on it
if there was no hahaha... SB was coming your way..
The consensus is no, you shouldn't wear those boots. No way, no how.
just no
Please wear those
Negative.
the funny thing is, i've seen 2 people wear those (in banking). I was like wtf?
If it is really wet or snowy outside wear galoshes over your dress shoes and then take them off once you get into work. Only college age girls like boots and it should stay that way.
if you are gonna do boots, get winklepickers
Jesus grow a pair of balls and get some real boots if you are even going to have this discussion. For example if you want boots get these. http://www.callisters.com/Mens-Tony-Lama-Chocolate-Teju-Lizard-Dress-Co… Wear with a complimenting suit and you will look awesome. Not only will you be a few inches taller if someone pisses you off you have the option of saying "don't make me put my boot up your ass"
I live in SF, so might have a higher exposure than most of you, but I can empirically tell you that gay guys would rock those boots just as hard as they would the chelsea boots (see also: hipster guys).

if your'e an analyst, buy these in black and dark brown, and that's that.
Boots suggestion? (Originally Posted: 01/23/2014)
It has snowed once again in NYC and I have had to make the difficult decision of what shoes to wear. Currently, I usually wear my most worn-in and old Cole Haan cap toes to tread through the snow. Let's just say, the leather sole does not work out that well.
I've looked around at a variety of boots, and while the winter season may be slowing down, it also means winter clearance begins. What do you guys suggest for a winter boot that someone could wear throughout the day but also provide the rough and tough material to walk through the slush of New York's streets?
And yes, I already have true winter boots and know I am able to carry other shoes with me. Also, I am aware of galoshes and am looking for other options.
Hi I'm interested as well. Did you find what types of boots work best?
Take a look through slides 18 through 29.

I personally prefer Timbs but you also have Red Wings, which look a little more formal. Lately, I've been seeing a ton of LL Bean boots as well.

KHOMBU
You could get a dress boot, maybe something like these from Allen Edmonds, which happen to be on sale right now.
I so t understand why you're nt wearing your good boots and ten change shoes at work. Why make life more difficult than it already is. Your search will go nowhere...
My god my autocorrect is awful today
Check out Cole Haan's winterized boots ... well okay they're chukkas but it's something. Plus I know they offer other winter shoes.

Really big fan of Red Wings.

Little more stylish than Timber&Co: Wolverine

thefryecompany(.)com so much classier than Timbers and Red Wings.
+1 on Frye boots
LL Bean duck boots.
For what it is worth, I have a pair of the dress type boots from Allen Edmonds and although they look great to wear around the office they aren't something I would want to trash in the snow and muck. They'd hold up, but would eventually defeat the purpose of me spending that much in the first place for dressier, nice boots.
LL Bean or Sorel are obvious choices for price to performance because I love mine, but that depends on how casual you can get away with at the office. There seems to be an unspoken rule in mine that as the weather gets rougher, you get a bit of leeway in what you wear in.
Y'all need to go for some serious cowboy boots and just call it a day.
Elephant hide is highly recommended if you can afford the price tag.
I'd say one of three options:
LLB Boots
Sperry Boots
Sorel boots (http://www.sorel.com/)
Size down AT least one or two sizes and you're welcome.

Go to Red Wing Shoes store. Right now.
Why not buy some North Face winter boots and simply change. You'll have to do it maybe 10-20 days a year, but probably the best/easiest solution.
I had the same choice to make. The decision is quite simple, get a boot that's rated for snow and cold, or something that's half dress boot half snow boot. Check out the Sorel below and see if that'll do. The only caveat is that you feet will be extra toasty and possibly sweaty in the office. If it helps, on my floor, 75% change into something when they get to work.

Crockett & Jones Islay ? Trickers Malton ? Cheaney tweed C country boots in Almond grain ?
You gonna give it to the brit', they got most of the best shoes in the wolrd. But I don't know if they are readily available in the US or not.
Leave some dress shoes in the office and wear Timbs.
Clarks aren't bad
Amach3 has the best suggestion it doesn't make any sense to complex the wearing/not wearing boot decision. If you leave the dress shoes (2 pairs) at the office it will take away the "frostbite and ice skater fall" concern. That cool looking "kick-ass Swiss Alp UFC beatdown boot" will make folks look at you with admiration and jealousy as they say "Shit! That's a good idea."
wolverine 1000 miles in brown or rust. Best thing I've bought in a long time.
LL Bean boots for sure

What do you guys do for shoes during the winter time in NYC? Leave your shoes in the office and just wear boots back and forth?
Curious as well.
Swims galoshes. Hot as hell
Curious as well, and I looked at the swims, would those cover the whole show / damage the leather?
Swims don't damage the leather. Been a happy user since '09 and none of my shoes been damage, except wear and tear.
i have a pair of hunters i use for rain and all that
I can speak from Chicago experience (I'm pretty sure snow and ice is the same everywhere), most people I know either carry their shoes with them or leave them in the office and wear waterproof boots. As far as brands, I really like Sorel. Very durable, comfortable, not to mention warm as hell with the liner.
def snow boots. Everyone in snow boots judges the guy whose puddle jumping around and lands ankle deep in one of those gross corner puddles that are on every corner in the city.
Bump.. anyone have specific recommendations? Or is the consensus just to buy those covers for loafers to protect from water damage?
Question regarding boots and a suit (Originally Posted: 12/14/2015)
So I know there are many topics that speak about Bean boots and other boots and changing at work. But in reality, is it okay to wear LL Bean boots and tuck your suit pant into the boot and what not. I mean i know its about not ruining your shoes and suit but do not want to look like a jackass either. Or is it better to go with a tote/condom or something like :

I think those Allen Edmonds boots look awesome. I might get a pair.
I mean if it's two feet of snow outside, I don't think people are going to care if you wear snow boots into the office and then change into regular shoes once you're in the office.
Those boots are nice but you'll destroy those just like you would shoes. They're not exactly snow boots. Like DickFuld said if it's really bad out just wear boots and change into shoes when you get to the office. I also take shoes that are nearing the end of their useful life to a cobbler and have him put on a thicker rubber sole for bad winter weather. Salt destroys leather soles and shoes. Not worth getting nice shoes in the beginning of winter.
