Booz to M/B/B?
Does anyone know how viable it is to get to m/b/b from booz & co? recently accepted an offer from them through a connection and i'm thinking if i can be a standout and do well, maybe try to get to m/b/b after a year or so. Went to a non HYP ivy, but didn't do well. I have a connection at M who told me that your gpa becomes less important over time, and ultimately accomplishments at your firm will trump that. I'm looking to get into a strategy group at an Investment Bank following my consulting experience and from there get my MBA. i figure it'd be easier to do that from m/b/b. any thoughts?
A strategy group at an investment bank?
It's possible to switch from Booz to M/B/B, but difficult because those firms typically don't like to make lateral hires. They'd rather their consultants, especially at the pre-MBA level, have been trained and brought up in their firm and their culture.
To be honest, if you're successful enough at Booz to be able to switch, you'd really be better off staying there. Being successful would mean that you're comfortable in the culture of the firm, that you've built up a strong level of credibility within the firm, and that you'll have some ability to control the type of projects and clients you end up working on going forward. Those are factors that you'd then have to sacrifice if moving to another firm, and you could end up shooting yourself in the foot. If you plan on pursuing an MBA, being a strong performer at Booz will set you up very well to get into all of the top schools.
right, like Morgan Stanley's Firm Strategy & Execution group
but you make a good point. also, Booz is #4. a distant 4, but still nonetheless a great firm with interesting projects. thanks for your input! it'd be great to see if anyone else has any thoughts
I'd say you've got a good shot.
Unless you're from Bethesda, that is.
what's wrong with Bethesda, or being from there?
why do you want to go to a strategy group at an investment bank?
