Brainstorming: Latest Very Innovative Technologies?
I'm brainstorming the latest innovative technologies (for a project) and I could really use WSO help. By "latest," I guess I just mean within the last few years. It can even be later, since some things were invented awhile ago, but have caught on more recently.
So far, this is all I got:
-- eReaders
-- Tablets
-- Mobile Computing
now YOU want help with your homework...how ironic (I kid)
Hey, I helped you a bunch with yours... Haha, I'm just joking.
3D printing might work, although thats obviously not widespread yet. The Economist has a special report on this in the most recent issue http://www.economist.com/node/18114221

It was somewhere in an economist article
Yeah, that's what the short NYT video is about. You guys should all check it out -- it's awesome!

I just read this. It's so cool! Thanks.
software -> facebook hardware -> digital cameras
How about digital trading?
Technology seems so broad. Hardware? Software? Robotics (didn't talk enough about robotics yesterday)? Military Technology? Biotech? Are cool apps considered innovative technology?
I have no idea. I think any will work. It should be something with the potential to "change the world." It is for a writing assignment, but I'm not asking anyone to do anything other than help me brainstorm technologies. I intend to research and write the entire thing myself, it's just that I'm pretty ignorant about innovation and am looking for some technologies to explore.
Definitely check out the economist link above then. It talks a bit about how 3D printing has the potential to nearly eliminate economies of scale by making mass production irrelevant (The Economists words not mine, not sure if I agree or disagree with that). That would be a pretty massive world change.
Cloud. That's where everything is heading.
This.
The usage of software from remote areas is definitely the future. Pretty soon we're going to be running Windows without it actually being installed in your computers. Couple implications of this trend:
I could go on forever but the above 3 are ideas that will be significant IMO. If you apply this tend to the smartphone space, the possibilities are endless.
Hope this helps.
Agree with Jsmort11. Here is another article on 3D printing being used for food production.
3D printing is awesome! Check this out: http://video.nytimes.com/video/2010/09/13/technology/1248068999175/desk…
Yep, I'm definitely doing it on that. Thanks guys. Everybody who's already gave me some ideas gets SBs!
Check out this new startup called Square
I was going to say cloud, but you picked 3D printing so I guess you got your idea.
Cloud computing is, no doubt, revolutionary. I'm just too excited about all the stuff they're already producing with 3D printing to think about anything else...
I feel like a little kid haha
If we could keep this thread going that would be sweet. I'm pretty interested in the intersection of technology and economics. Econ, if you wanna share your progress you'd have at least one person interested.
I'm interested. Any ideas where to start?
what is cloud computing?
