Breaking into FP&A as a credit analyst
I graduated from a target school (business / econs major) about 6-8 months ago and bounced around a bit from jobs in consulting and healthcare but didn't like either. I know, I'm "that guy" who doesn't know what he wants in a career.
I taken a keen interest in FP&A and believe its something that I am very much into. However, my attempts at securing such a role in my country (modernised Asian country) has been unsuccessful so far. I ended up with a job offer as a credit analyst for a large multinational corporation (not a bank).
In the credit analyst role, I will be analysing the credit worthiness of individuals (retail credit) and companies (corporate credit). I was informed during the interview that the bulk of the company's work is focused on retail credit as opposed to corporate credit (70% retail - 30% corporate). Understandably, analysing a corporation's financial performance is much more relevant to FP&A and more exciting for me
I'm going to take the job as my CV is starting to look utterly rubbish with my job-hopping and all the FP&A roles I desperately wanted preferred folks with a few years under their belt. I just wanted to get some idea from this community if I can somehow make the transition from credit analysis to FP&A a year or two down the road.
I'm hoping to glean some advice of the people who have been in the FP&A fields and able to let me know if my career aspirations are still within reach, and what I can do to maximise my chances to break into a FP&A gig.
