Brick wall?
Cliffs:
-Networked pretty well with an MD (ER) at a large MM bank (Jefferies/RBC/Blair) over the summer
-Follow up with him earlier in October, he offers to give my resume to their DOR for a SA position
-Hear back today
-MD sent it to the DOR who forwarded it to their recruiting staff
-Recruiter replied and said that I should stay in contact and apply next year since the program is recommended for juniors
-MD says he'll keep working on things from his end
I haven't replied to him yet, but I'm wondering if there's anything more I could do in this situation or if I should throw in the towel. I know its rare for banks to take sophomores for SA positions, but given my past experience I'm 100% confident I could add value as an intern.
Background:
-Non Target sophomore
-Previous experience include last summer with a lower tier MM in ER, and the winter/spring before at a large cap growth shop ($6B AUM)
Any advice or am I preaching to the choir?
Sounds like you are doing very well, especially as a sophomore. Even if you don't make it this summer, you will be well positioned next summer for ER of your choice.
Keep networking with other firms. It's still pretty early for SA apps so keep your options open.
Don't stop trying - more important than anything, keep fostering that relationship, don't annoy them about insisting on this summer but definitely demonstrate your interest.
Non-target sophomore with 2000 banana points? Nice.
Yeah if you tend to round up by 907
