Browser Wars
market share and ended October at about 23% (Edge started the year at about 3% and ended at 5%). Chrome started 2016 at 35% market share and ended the October at 55%.Internet Explorer began the year at about 44% of
Holy shit people still use Internet Explorer? I thought that died a long time ago, don’t see how it managed to keep 50% of the market share for most of 2015. Also surprised to see Safari so low on the list considering how ubiquitous Macs have become.
I've used just about every browser at some point, but like most Chrome is my go to. Can't really tell if it's much faster than the others, but the sleek, minimalist design is really nice. What do you guys prefer to use?

browser market share
Using Chrome, as well. Not entirely happy though. How's Edge?
I've actually never used Edge. I think it's only available on Windows 10 though.
makes sense, still doesn't seem there is any really outstanding browser out there atm
Same here
Started using edge recently to test it, it has some script issues.
Not using chrome anymore, google is evil. Firefox is still alright though I don't like some of their new shit. Opera works fine for most cases but even there the script issues will drive you crazy.
I'm surprised Safari and Firefox are so low in market share. They are very stable, which makes sense but the share itself feels low.
When I go into someone else's office to look at something on their monitor and I notice IE is up and running I start to get worried for them (although I know there are a few applications that only work for IE which is very annoying).
Related question for you guys: It seems that Chrome changed the functionality this year to not allow the backspace key to go back. I googled it and could not find a work around. Anyone know how to change that or a work around?

Thank you for that value add. Huge improvement to my quality of life.
alt +back arrow to go back and alt + forward arrow to go forward
Chrome and Firefox are the only two viable browsers (from a security, speed, convenience/support aspect). IE/Edge/Safari are all pretty awful. This is pretty commonly accepted among all my CS/software dev friends.
I use Chrome at work and Edge at home. Edge is the only browser on Win10 that streams Netflix at 1080p (although Netflix has a standalone app thats streams at 1080p as well).
lol internet explorer... what a relic
i see our stats and that yeah people still use it, incredible
Safari's market share is small because - and I have scientific proof of this - most people who buy macs do so for show. I don't even think they know what the internet is.

I use Firefox with various addons. Dark skin, Adblock, NoScript, Facebook Cleaner. Much better. The only annoying factor is that it gets updated super frequently and that sometimes makes addons obsolete and not working for a while.
Have to use IE for certain work things unfortunately. Chrome is an absolute memory hog but I use it on my work laptop. Safari all day every day on personal.
Internet browser topic? Real slow night on WSO...
IE is required for our corporate intranet. I'd guess the majority of that market share is from business use (and grandmas).
For personal usage I still use Firefox from back when Chrome wasn't even an option. Still the better browser IMO given Chrome's RAM usage.
I don't know what gives me a worse twitch: people using IE or people using their mouse in Excel.
That being said, people still use IE for one reason: it came with their computer. Think about it for a minute. If you are not tech savvy and buy a computer, how would you know that IE is a crappy browser? All you would know is that the IE icon is what you click to use the Internet.
both of these are baby boomer staples
Forced onto IE for work. It is a miserable existence. - I can request Chrome, but I think it will take something like 8 months to over a year to get "approval".
When I'm home I have all of them downloaded between my PC and my MacBook. Safari, Firefox, Chrome, & IE. I primarily use Firefox, and on my Mac I will use Safari. (For Mac users, have you noticed the difference in battery usage between Chrome and Safari? I have way more time when using Safari...)
I wish it was a joke. And yup. I think it is because Safari I so specifically optimized for the Apple platform that it uses less battery.
Quick search link about this - http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/safari-vs-chrome-os-x-browser-right/
This is probably more prevalent than some of you seem to think. I can't install anything on my work computer.
At work, I'm 50/50 IE and Chrome because our company insists on making web based apps that only run on IE. At home, I strictly use Safari. Over the past few OSX versions, Safari has become extremely optimized to use less battery, RAM, and fun faster than Chrome. If you have a Mac, open activity monitor the next time you run Chrome and I bet you'll decide to give Safari another shot.
Interesting. I wasn't aware of that. I'll have to check that out..
I only used edge because it came with my computer.
Edge?IE is to Chrome as bing is to google.
The most searched term on bing is "google"
I overrode the controls the tech team has in place to install Chrome.
Compliance flipped a shit.
My MD asked me to do it for him.
What Browser to use? Chrome keeps crashing! (Originally Posted: 07/31/2012)
Google Chrome keeps crashing because of "shockwave flash." Happens 10 times a day almost, but I love Chrome's speed. What do to?
Firefox v13 is also having the same Flash problem.
Try the newest FF (v14) that was just released.
Firefox for Windows, Safari for Mac.
Only time I get Chrome crashing is when I have like 10 tabs open. Also helps to restart it on occassion
If you're on a Mac, use Safari. I just switched back to it from Chrome and am very happy. If you're on Windows, try going back to an earlier version of Chrome or start disabling extensions / flash.
Revert to an older Chrome or Firefox I guess.
Have you a) upgraded your browser by using the little wrench in the top right corner? And b) upgraded to the latest version of flash?
Used to be an avid FireFox user but switched to chrome the past year and I haven't looked back. No crashing problems for me. Make sure you have the newest version (or revert to a previous version which you knew worked)
Like a previous poster said, firefox has been having some flash issues recently but still a great browser. Have been using for years and haven't looked back.
