What to wear to consulting info session-Female

Ladies, or gents with an opinion, what to do? Headed to an MBB info session this evening. It's at 5:30, and it will be held at one of the nicest hotels in town. Last time I went to an MBB info session, it was held at an upscale bar at 8pm and the dress was indicated as business casual and I wore cream and dark purple tweed cropped pants, and a matching dark purple long sleeved silk blouse, and jimmy choo nude peep toe pumps. I was definitely the only one in purple! Everyone was wearing gray/black/navy but I still looked professional, and I actually got compliments on my outfit. I think it might have helped me stand out.

This other event has not specified a dress code, and this firm is generally known to be the more conservative of the three. The outfit I want to wear is a pair of bright red wool pants, cropped at the ankle, coupled with either a navy/white stripe oxford or a navy and white polkadot silk blouse plus a either a camel or charcoal cashmere cardigan in either case. Both are very nice, not cheap looking, but definitely feminine. Should I go for a more conservative route i.e. black pencil skirt, oxford, cardigan? Should I wear a blazer?

Sorry this is so specific. I am struggling between my tendency toward the fashionable and wanting to set myself apart from the crowd and my desire to be taken seriously/not look like an idiot.

123 go.

Peter- I'm asking an internet forum of strangers, not my manager. If I knew everything about the business world already, I'd be applying for FT, not an internship. Thanks for your input.

Brofalfa, tmur, point taken. Boring black skirt it is. [edited to add] Thanks for your help!
