This is ridiculous, anyone choosing BYU or Richmond over Berkeley, Wash U, or NYU, must be crazy.

Richmond knows its shit. They have a decent amount of alumni up on the street and they are taught the stuff to go toe to toe with the ivys. Them and Villanova are the only private liberal arts schools in the top 15. Richmond is up and coming too, was ranked in the mid 20's only 2 years ago. The spiders aren't so itsy bitsy

Oh okay, so if this is the case, Alabama is truly ranked higher than Cornell, Notre Dame, Emory, and UT Austin? Spare me.

  1. Wharton
  2. MIT
  3. Duke
  4. NYU
  5. Any Ivy

I'm sorry but who did Villanova, North Carolina, and Georgetown have to sleep with to make it into the top ten....

Considering you went to Villanova that makes you a JUDAS!!!!!!!!

Glad to know Nova alumni support the school

Just because you went to some aforementioned school that was beaten out by ND UVA and Emory doesn't mean all of you have to bitch about it. While I dont think those 3 are the top 3 in the country yet, they still are top schools. I still think its laughable that Wharton is not number 1. And sorry Sternies, your school shouldnt be number 2.

Haha looks like someone is jealous. How's your non-target ass doing? And by the way, noone's bitching about one school being beaten out by the other, we're talking about the credibility of BW rankings. What was your CR score?

First of all, most undergrad business school rankings are very volatile and hold little meaning. That being said, the BusinessWeek rankings are a better measure than US News. The US News rankings are based entirely on surveys distributed to faculty/administrators at various business schools. These faculy/administrators then rank which schools they believe are best, regardless of if they have knowledge of the actual programs at each school (so its mostly a ranking of name recognition alone).

BusinessWeek instead factors in recruiter surveys, SAT scores, starting salaries, student satisfaction, MBA feeder success, etc. That definitely seems like a better approach to me. I think a lot of people that are freaking out about this ranking and running to US News probably saw their school drop and are unhappy about it. It's really not a big deal at all, so don't worry so much about it

What are you a rep for BW? If so:

  1. -1 for spam
  2. US News more closely follows the street's opinion, which is where all value is realized.
  3. Name recognition is honestly extremely important; maybe try a way to incorprate this into your next big report by sourcing infor from US News.

Thanks

Haha I doubt a BW rep would emphasize the minimal importance of such rankings (see first/last sentences of previous post). Personally I couldn't care less who is ranked where. I was just explaining the difference and giving my opinion on it. I agree though that name recognition is important, but no ranking system takes everything into account, which is why they're all very flawed. I think it's also important to remember that the ranking is based on an overall measure, not which school gets the most students on the Street.

Yea because business is not solely investment banking in NYC. Contrary to what most of the hs'ers on this forum think.

Yep you're right. It's also about S&T, IM, Research and Consulting (no particular order). Anything outside those fields and you will be otherwise considered as a "useless fuck".

Guy keep in mind this is fucking undergrad, not MBA. If you're at an MBA then sure turning down Goldman IBD Associate to start your own company or go to a non-profit may be considered "honorable" but in undergrad, it's all about gaining experience and getting your foot in the door and arguably the BEST way is through the job fields I mentioned above, along with IBD.

Wharton undergrad doesn't get its prestige from the number of kids it sends to Teach for America - it gets it prestige from sending 20 fucking analysts to Goldman Sachs. Get that straight you chimps.

Business classes at Notre Dame are a joke relatively speaking -- I have no idea how they are #1 twice in a row... maybe they give their students GPA bumps to take the survey? These things always disappoint, and how about Texas dropping seven spots? Ouch.

I chose USC over wharton. the quality of students are pretty much same and USC has more opportunities because of sports and being underdog is a huge advantage. plus many students are not toolish like wharton kids who talk about finance all the time its like get a life amirite

... have you read some of your comments? Definition of toolish...

Yawn, more flaming rankings. You are all look at things from a banking perspective. Most people have no desire to be in banking.

All the top schools are very good schools. Obviously if you want to be a banker this list is silly, but if you want to work at GE, do you really need all the pressure at Wharton?

Villanova probably shouldn't be 7, but is absolutely a good business school.

I don't think ranking by salary is the perfect solution. Obviously a good solution, but it ignores schools that place regionally and quality of life. Suppose you don't want to do banking, do you really want to go to Wharton? Undergrad is a pressure cooker. Not saying you want something that is a cake walk, but maybe you would look at Cornell or Duke or something. Some place with an amazing education, but not a banking factory.
