Buying a new suit
I am currently a senior and will be starting full-time at a top "boutique". I currently have 2 suits, one charcoal and the other a navy pin stripe. The navy pin stripe is pretty crappy and the charcoal is alright. Burberry is having an event in two weeks where you can order MTM suits for around 1000. I am looking for a solid navy suit. I am thinking I'll probably only need one more suit. Do you think I am spending to much money? It would probably be useful to note that I am pretty tall and skinny so I have trouble finding suits that fit well.

Custom
If you can find one off the rack that fits, go for it. I can only fit in custom made suits. $1000 is probably average if not on the low side.
$1000 suits as a senior in
$1000 suits as a senior in college = douche bag
Seriously, if YOU are paying for it how stupid could you be? Just get a nice 300-450 suit and you are golden for interviews.

I would strongly recommend against paying that much for a suit. If you do, you'll probably find yourself among the best-dressed people at work, eclipsing many associates and VPs. Trust me, I'm not even the best-dressed analyst and I'm still better dressed than many associates and VPs (and other analysts) - I paid $400/suit.

Oh my...
Get a decent suit for $400 that's it. You never end up wearing the top jacket anyways...

How do you know when the high end stores are having their sales? I would like to as I am in the midst of upgrading my wardrobe.

If you can find a brand that has a good fit with decent materials, just stick with them. I found a brand that OTR has a great cut that fits a more tall/athletic build, and after simple tailoring (shortening cuts/pants), under $300 a suit.

@ibankinglife
can you suggest any stores to get a classy $400 suit?
thanks
Honestly
People make so many jokes that I think alot of impressionable college types don't understand: Brooks Brothers is fine. A great place for a good, custom-fit suit(s) in that range (400-600).

Jos. A Bank, and get whatever you're getting on sale (never pay the full price there).
From the mouth of a GS manager:
"Do not overdress senior professionals."
You are expected to dress based on what is affordable for your income bracket. Unless you want to dig into your proverbial trust fund to pay for clothing, I'd suggest getting less expensive suits (as most users have previously suggested) and get a fantastic tailoring job.
I get stuff off the sale rack and then pay whatever it takes to get it tailored immaculately. You end up looking far better than you would otherwise, for less.
Fit is far more important
Fit is far more important than brand as pretty much everyone will tell you. Take a look at Brooks Brothers or Zara. Buy one off the rack and get it tailored. Hell, even banana republic should be fine as long as you get it tailored.
