Buyside -> HC Bus. Dev/Corp. Strat Transition
Most on this forum are trying to break into the buyside (HF/PE) from IB or others areas of business. From what I understand the most common transition into a Business Development or Corporate Strategy role at a F500 Healthcare firm is from consulting or after a top MBA. My question is what is the feasibility of breaking into a Manager/Senior Manager level role after 2-3 years as an analyst at a top HF or PE firm. I feel that the experience in a HF say focused on public equities would be less valuable than a consulting or PE role since there is no real operational aspect to it but that the "prestige" of these firms along with the possibility to connect with management at conferences and 1-1s may offset that deficiency. Any thoughts on this?
Anybody know anything about the HF -> Corp. Dev/Corp. Strat transition?
I have never heard of anyone successfully making that transition. IB and PE shops sometimes hire for prestige because they have clients and/or investors they want to impress. Regular corporations have no such need. So they don't hire for prestige. They hire for what you can contribute.
