Can being a credit analyst set me up well for anything next summer?
Hi guys,
I signed a while ago with a large commercial bank as a summer credit analyst. I absolutely love the people there, and am very excited to gain some relevant experience during my sophomore year summer. The position is in small business commercial lending, and i'll be working with balance sheets and basic cash flow modeling.
I wanted to ask the boards if credit analysis can lead me to a particular type of group for banking during my junior year summer? I've been told to definitely target Leveraged finance, but I know little about it and whether credit analysis is very relevant. I believe that LevFin involves working with industry groups to analyze firm capital structures, but I am not certain, and i've searched this board and can't find any good threads on levfin.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
will allow you to build your skill set and could be a stepping stone to other opportunities. I would say candidly that "commercial banking" etc is sometimes looked upon as backwater for those who can't get an ib position. I personally, could careless as long as your smart and I could stand to work with you for 16 hrs a day.
I know of a few people that were commercial banking SAs and now are FT IBD at different banks. Heavy networking though.
He's a sophomore... he'll be fine... To land that as a sophomore is very impressive. It will set you up for BB SA in Banking if you want it...
Thanks for the input and the link!
Well, I honestly had no chance at getting IBD for sophomore summer, as only minorities and people with connections are able to get those positions at my university for sophomore summer. I was really looking for convenience, as this internship allows me to work from home.
