Can firms track emails sent through their wifi?

Obviously you don't want to use your work email when communicating with PE firms etc but what about if you read and send emails (using a personal email address) on an ipad or something thats connected to the firm's wireless connection? Can banks track this somehow?

On that note, what about reading emails on gmail at your work computer?

Thanks.

Similarly, I would like to know if firms can track e-mails sent with personal e-mail accounts like yahoo or hotmail on their computers (these aren't blocked on our comps) or can they only track the stuff on outlook?

Sweet that you have an iPad

watch out they can read your mind and tell if you are thinking you really would rather be somewhere else at 11pm on a Friday

seriously tho -> no they will not read your personal emails although maybe they theoretically could through high tech NSA interception (although this would probably be illegal)

This would not be illegal, and if they wanted to they almost surely could. But I would say it is generally not worth their time. That might come into play in the case of an investigation - if you were sending insider tips from your work computer using gmail, then it would be worth their time to look around a bit.

"Sweet that you have an iPad"...and it shits in Kyle's mouth

Coming from someone who has worked at a boutique firm's IT department (i.e., me), I can say with certainty that most firms cannot get in to your personal email. Anything sent via company email is 1000% their domain (they can and do read that stuff, I would know :D ), but the most they can do with your personal email is see what's on your screen the exact moment you're on, and that's if you're using a company computer.
