Canadian moving to Singapore ---> How do I avoid paying taxes in Canada???

Hey guys,

For those Canadians out there.... I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I should apply for non-resident status in Canada?

I am moving to Singapore for a fulltime job with GS, and am wondering if anyone can tell me how I can go about not paying for the Canadian income taxes... as they are quite hefty!

Thanks very much for your help in advance!!

SR.

I am also a Canadian moving to Singapore and I am very excited to start paying really low income taxes!

As I am currently not a resident of Canada, I am not too worried about paying Canadian income taxes. I think you should also be fine if you take up permanent residency in Singapore. If you earn and keep all of your funds in Singapore, i don't think you should have any problem with the Canadian govt.

I'm not sure why you would want to maintain residency status in Canada... Are there some benefits that I do not know of? There is the benefit of health insurance... but since you will continuously be in SG, you couldn't benefit much from it...

I think you need to claim non-residence which has some big requirements. Check it out.

I'm purely guessing btw, I just know someone who is Canadian haha.
