Capgemini Reputation (Strategy and Transformation and Life Sciences)
I know Vault rankings ballpark the prestige, work-life balance, etc relatively well, but I was wondering what is the reputation of Capgemini? I know their bread and butter is tech consulting, but I was wondering about those groups.
How is Capgemini vs more well known 2nd tier firms like Accenture, Deloitte etc? What are the exit opps like for Capgemini?

Capgemini's reputation is pretty crummy. Apparently they used to be a name a long time ago, but no longer. I'd compare them to Accenture reputation-wise, but with less name recognition.
But that's ONLY reputation. I don't know anything about project mix/exit opps.
Capgemini is inferior to other consulting companies. It wants to be like Accenture but fails.
After working at the company for a few months now there is a clear distinction between
Capgemini Consulting (Management/Strategy Consulting) and Capgemini (Tech Implementation)
The former is actually not a bad place to be, lots of high level strategy work and projects at F1000 companies, but it is definitely a small practice with ~250 consultants with a high concentration of MBA grads and ex-MBB. Compensation is up there with MBB and there is plenty of projects to be on.
The latter is pretty much what it is, tech implementation where you learn some sort of IT system or data management system and implement.
However the two are lumped together when talking about one or the other, but in fact are highly different groups within the same company.
Capgemini is the KPMG consulting arm divestiture post-SOX was it not?
Nah it was EY's consulting arm
Oh, I'm thinking BearingPoint I'm pretty sure.

I have a friend that worked very hard to get a Capgemini offer doing technology consulting, but he's disappointed with his compensation.
Does anybody have typical compensation numbers for undergrads in the Houston/Dallas area? His current offer is a couple k below 60k.
Has anybody had any experience negotiating up? If so, can you speak about it?
That's pretty standard for that tier of firm. Most firms in that range pay low 50's to low 60's depending on location, etc. It's going to be difficult (if not impossible) to negotiate up assuming it's an entry level position and he doesn't have a higher offer from a competing firm to leverage.
Hmmm, true, I have a friend that has a friend that got an offer in NY and they're getting 70k-ish, but then again it is NY :( Bummer, thanks for the input
Honestly that's a ton of money for that area. I'm surprised it's not in the 40's.

how is cap perceived by other consulting firms? how feasible is it to trade up in prestige after a year or two?

Can anyone talk about salary progression/exit opportunities for post-MBA's (top 10 school) at Capgemini? This is specifically for the financial services group in their management consulting wing. Basically, how much will be I hosed, salary-wise?
not sure about FS but for life science, it was ~110K base 1-2 years ago. Bonus should be like be around 10-15%.
exit options will depend on the type of work you get, and more importantly the weight of your MBA

I have a first round interview with Capgemini's Financial Services Division. The problem is, I really have no idea what exactly they do!! The job description is pretty vague and their website is very opaque. As an undergrad consultant, what would be my day-to-day duties? What exactly do they do (specific business case example might help illustrate this better).

I'd say they're on the lower end of the spectrum - something more in line with Deloitte. They tend to do alot of supply chain or IT consulting (read: less strategy, and more operational).
The good things i've heard about them though is that consultants generally work less hours here than at other firms, and they also tend to travel less.

I guess it depends on the office. When they came to recruit at our campus, one of their "selling points" was less travel than the other firms.
It is a lower-tier firm. They just do a lot of system implementation work and even if you are brought into a group that doesn't do that, that is the market's impression.
I know a guy who works in their NY office, and he flys out west on Sunday night or early Monday morning and then gets back to NY some time Friday. I got the impression that was pretty much the norm.
