Insurance underwriting has a
Insurance underwriting has a finance 'feel' to it, so it shouldn't be too hard to parlay your previous experience and network into getting a banking job. You need to be aware that recruitment for summer associate positions starts the first day you step on campus. In addition to tackling your coursework, you need to stay on top of deadlines, put your applications in promptly, speak with the careers services center (or whatever it's called at Wake Forest), attend networking events at Wake, UNC, and Duke, find out which banks/hedge funds/investment consultancies/PE shops/VC firms recruit on campus. Find out when those firms are going to be on campus, and be sure to show up in business attire with some resumes and business cards in your briefcase/satchel/whatever you carry. Join the finance/business/private equity/venture capital/banking/trading societies at your b-school. Attend the first few meetings to find out which organizations actually carry any weight/add to your network/host events with finance professionals. And blow the dean for extra credit.
If at the end of summer associate recruiting, you haven't landed a job, you need to start leveraging your network for off-cycle opportunities. If you want a full-time offer in I-banking coming out of b-school, you need to get a summer associate offer in the field (especially since you didn't do an analyst program at an IB), so don't be too picky when it comes to applying. Apply everywhere. The marginal cost of an additional application is minimal, so take the time to fill out as many as possible. Don't just target BBs. Hit up elite boutiques/mid-market firms/etc.
You're welcome.
