Carmelo Anthony Starts a VC Fund

Signed to the New York Knicks for another five seasons, Carmelo Anthony is already looking to life after basketball.

On Monday, Anthony announced the creation of M7 Tech Partners, a venture capital firm whose only partners are Anthony and Stuart Goldfarb, the former CEO of Bertelsmann, the world's largest direct marketer of music, video and books.

"For as long as I can remember, I've been interested in technology," Anthony said in a statement. "We are actively looking for ventures with strong leadership that resonate with consumers."

So, uh, Melo...you hiring, broski?

This may not be as retarded as it seems at first glance, if they, for instance, targeted only technologies with professional sports applications. For example, a company trying to improve the food/beverage experience at ball games, or creating a more reliable interface to pull up real-time/historic stats. I would imagine melo has a pretty unique network and brand to help entrepreneurs break into the right circles and meet the right people.

That said, if he conducts due diligence like he plays defense, this will be one of the biggest wastes of money in history.
