Centerview Partners: how hard is it to intern or get a job?
Does anyone know how selective Centerview Partners is? I'm currently in HS, but I have been interested in IB for a few years. If anyone knows anything about Centerview and how hard it is to internship there junior year or get a job there for after graduation or just any facts about Centerview it would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
they hire straight from community colleges. as along you have 2.5 gpa.
Quite selective. Small and elite. Fair to think of them along the lines of a Greenhill/Evercore/Moelis, or maybe even a Lazard.
Why are you picking out individual banks you'd like to work for as an SA, while still in high school? Do you have a connection there or something? I had no clue I would be interested in banking when I was a senior in HS, much less where I'd want to work... Come to think of it, I'm not sure if I even knew what banking was...
they usually give FT offers before you graduate HS. if you haven't received one by junior yr HS, its most likely too late. selection process is all about your APs and how many varsity sports you play.
Centerview's selection process and target talent is similar to that of operations. I would say a 3.1 in Econ from Rutgers or a similarly prestigious school would get you in.
thanks for all the sarcastic answers guys! I know I'm really early in the process, I just heard that it was one of the better banks to work at, but obviously most banks are pretty hard to get into and require a lot of hard work.
Let me rephrase this then, in general, how hard is it to get an offer at a bank like Centerview coming from a top ten school and being involved in varsity athletics there (not a sport many people care about at the college level though)?
Centerview is probably only hiring a few guys a year. It is impossible to target any place that small unless you have a specific connection. Your chance of getting ANY offer to a place of Centerview's caliber is going to be around the same difficulty as getting an offer to a well-regarded large investment bank, however in my experience the smaller banks focus more on fit/provenance/pedigree due to the fact that they have a more neatly packaged culture.
It's not just fit/pedigree. Elite boutiques in general tend to have really selective processes, with interviews that are way more technical than most BB's (at least they did when I interviewed).
Alright thanks so much
Are you from Boston?
I go to high school in Boston, but I live in the suburbs.
What HS? I'm from Bos.
Thanks everyone, and Whiskey5, PMed you.
They're considered one of the top groups on Wall St., has possibly the highest pay on Wall St. for analysts, and they take 8-10 analysts per year. How competitive do you think it is?
They said they're taking about 10-12 summers this year. They're only looking to hire the smartest people, doesn't matter so much about your finance knowledge as long as you're incredibly smart.
OP - do a search, there should be one or two serious posts about Centerview. But you won't get much more than what you've already got from here, that it's
If you're in HS though, I think you just need to focus on (besides enjoying yourself... you're in HS after all) is trying to get yourself a head start on summer internships. You're definitely not getting a top IB spot right off the bat unless you're the son/daughter of a Fortune 50 company or head of a bank. But what you can potentially get is an unpaid or min wage position with a small investment bank or advisory shop if you're lucky.
banks aren't people how can they have heads?
^lol, whoops,I meant son/daughter of the head of Fortune 50 company or bank...
Apple had sex with Berkshire Hathaway and I was born.
OP, are you a virgin?
Thanks for the support guys haha. Serious general question about IB though, after freshman year at a top 10 school should i look for IB internships at the lesser known/smaller banks or does that typically begin sophomore year. I also could intern in the head EU Government next summer, would that generally be considered better than a small bank if I do something econ/finance related while there?

Anyone heard about their SA process yet? I've heard they've started doing accelerated at some places and have started hiring.

Hi everyone--
I got an invite to the accelerated process at Centerview.
Has anyone participated in this process? Do you know how many spots they have and how many people they are interviewing?
Only two spots available and they already gave one to a kid from China
SA or FT?
