Certificate in Real Estate Finance??
Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum and thought I'd give a quick intro. I completed a dual MSF/MSA in the Boston area and went to work for the Big 4. I recently switched from Big 4 accounting in the Boston area to an accounting role at a REIT. While at the Big 4, I came to the light and realized accounting is NOT what I wanted to do long term. I have always had a strong affinity towards real estate and so I started looking for RE opportunities. I found my current position and felt it was a great place to make the switch. The REIT is growing and there are a lot of people moving around.
I would love to make the switch to an Asset Management/acquisition role in the next year or two. My question is, have any of you heard of the Certificate in Real Estate Finance from Boston University? Would this be valuable at all or is this just a waste of time? I would love to set myself apart and show my managers that I am more than an accountant.

I realize much of the switch will come from networking. Besides that, I would love any advice any of you have on making the switch. Thanks!
I think the course work would be good stuff to learn and it would be another selling point on your resume that would show them your interest - I say go for it - its probably only a couple grand, right?
Acquisitions Guy, can you share your opinion on the program? Did you end up taking it? In a similar situation to you.
Thanks REValuation for your thoughts. Yes, it is a total of 8 courses, each one about $700. Plus my work would pay for it (got to love tuition reimbursement!)
Your human capital and your network are your biggest assets. You'd have the option to learn something that correlates to your goals and network with like minded individuals in your region, at no cost. I guess it boils down to the opportunity cost of your time
Technology has advanced so much. You can certify yourself as a Real Estate developer online too!
Don't waste your money on online degrees. They are nice if you want to pick something up for yourself.
OP, definitely go for the program!
