Chances at MBB 1st round

Hello,

I am a rising Junior at a semi-target for 2 of MBB/Target for one of MBB and have my eyes set on MBB for an internship next summer. I am an engineering major at a top 10 program, with a 3.70 and decent test scores (2100+ SAT). I have done some work for a small consulting firm (which has some big name clients) and interned on an internal consulting team for a Fortune 50 company this summer, interacting with hundreds of managers. I am decently involved around campus (member of 3 organizations and play on multiple intramural teams, and am a part of Accenture's student empowerment program -- really just a competitive networking/leadership program).

Do you think I have a chance at MBB 1st round interviews? Any advice? What about 2nd tier firms?

Thank you!

Some quick tips: 1) Previous posters hit the bullseye - network. It's really really hard to stand out (almost impossible I'd argue) by stats alone when applying to MBB. Be geniune and not overly aggressive. 2) Have your story down - you should have compelling and unique things to say to all the usual questions 3) Be interesting - This is a relative rounding error compared to the above, but don't be a cookie cutter applicant. Be someone they'll want to know more about

I think you got a pretty good shot. From your description, I'm guessing you go to a big public school with a strong engineering program like Cal, Texas, Michigan, Illinois or Georgia Tech. Having come from such a program, I think you're definitely qualified. My biggest piece of advice is to just reach out to alumni from your school at each of the firms and just make it known how interested you are. Let your strong résumé speak for itself as to how qualified you are and focus on communicating why consulting is a good fit for you and vice versa.
