Chances of investment banking internship?
I will be entering my junior year at a top 10 school in the US. I have an actuarial internship this summer, and I will be working in the risk management division. I passed 2 exams because I wanted to explore the actuary career. But now I am considering alternatives.
I have above a 3.9 GPA (math/Econ double major) and decent extracurriculars at school. I also have a research assistant position at my business school.
I realized this summer that I am interested in banking. Is it possible for me to get a banking internship at a BB next summer? Or have I pigeonholed myself by accepting an actuarial internship? Thanks.
Your sophomore year internship has pigeonholed you for life.
JK. Sure, why not? Good GPA, good school, rigorous major, finance-ish related sophomore internship. Chances are BBs recruit at your school if you're at a top 10. Talk to other students and/or your career center and see what the OCR schedule is for the banks. Don't see why it will be a problem for you to get interviews. Although, I never really understood why people who study math would be all that interested in investment banking. Why not S&T?
IB and PE require adequate math skills but nowhere near being a math major. You can easily do well if you're good with numbers and not necessarily great with math (if that makes sense-basically if you can understand acct and finance math and be good with excel you're set). With math or other quantitative backgrounds I'd go S&T and shoot for hf's.
