Changing Interview Date? OK or Auto Ding?

If I have an interview scheduled for later this week (3-4 interveiws I was told by my contact), but something came up that I would need to travel Thursday, would it be bad to ask to move my interview to an earlier day or later day?

Really not sure how to handle this.

Part of me says, it's not that big of a deal.

The other part says it's an auto ding.

What do you guys think? / Have any experience with this type of situation?

Do you think it would count against me if I called the person that scheduled the interview for me and explained to him that something came up and it's something I should attend to and then proceed to ask if it's in fact a super day and how it may affect my candiacy and leave myself room to say ok, I can travel Friday night to attend to it?

I just don't want to give the impression I am not committed...
