Citi, Deutsche Bank, J.P. Morgan, UBS, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse.... What do they specialize on?

I am looking into this banks and I was hoping someone could enlighten me about what each one of these banks specialize on? What each of them do best?
For example which ones do more underwriting or M&A, which ones specialize in what industries

So if you could choose which one to work for... which one would be, why??
which one pays more, or maybe in another there's a better chance to climb the tree, perhaps one is "iffy" and you rather go for the others... any insight? any helpful advice???

I'm not gonna go into what each one does (I'm not qualified enough to do so in detail), but they are all similar in many ways. A lot of the differences will come from the specific group you end up working in.

If I had to choose between all of them, my top 3 in this order would be:

  1. JPMorgan - they are in the lead this year and have a great future ahead of them. Very strong name and reputation for taking care of their people.

  2. Goldman Sachs - reputation tainted in the past couple of years but still the most prestigious name in finance. Great exit opportunities and definitely one of the best out there.

  3. Citi - they seem to be rebounding in a big way and should have a strong future ahead of them.

If there is one firm on your list I would not want to work for right now, it's UBS... I know many people who worked for them - some of them were unhappy and ended up going over to other banks like Merrill Lynch, and others were there as recently as a few months ago and told me things were pretty bad. Almost the entire Houston office packed up and left, rescinding FT offers they had made to a bunch of seniors, who were then left jobless. I'm sure things will get better, but right now seems to be a bad time for them.

Wall Street leaders now understand that they made a mistake, one born of their innocent and trusting nature. They trusted ordinary Americans to behave more responsibly than they themselves ever would, and these ordinary Americans betrayed their trust.

They specialize in making money.
