Controversial

It's because the healthcare VP who does intern training there has forEVER been a huge creep to female interns... rotten to the CORE

The founders came up with the idea of going independent after getting shitfaced on Everclear, but they couldn't name their firm after grain alcohol and so they changed it to Evercore.

It's actually a very funny story.

Roger Altman, prior to founding Evercore in 1995, was going through some personal issues with his wife and his marriage was teetering on the edge of divorce. The stress of starting a new company was exacerbating the problem.

Anyway, long story short is that he was on the phone arguing with his wife as he and his lawyer were working on setting up his corporation. At one point the topic of divorce came up and allegedly said something to the tune of taking him for half of his belongings. At which point, an angry Altman shouted into the phone "NEVER WHORE".

His lawyer had a lightbulb go off in his head and Altman managed to work things out with his wife to whom he is still married.
