Emailing hiring manager before or after sending in application for a job posting?
I'm a first year student and found a summer internship opening which is open to all undergrads, even first years. Although I have relevant experience and good grades, I feel like my status as a first year student will greatly reduce my chances to land this internship. I have never sent a cold-email before, and don't have much experience doing 1-on-1 coffees. However, I am a confident individual with a real story to tell (personal).
If I was to reach out to the hiring manager, would you recommend that I do so before sending in my application (due roughly two weeks from now) or after? Would you recommend I reach out at all?
Always reach out, don't ever just submit an application into a black hole if you can help it. I'd do this before applying.
Yea, always reach out. If the hiring manager doesnt respond, maybe find someone in the company that is an alumni and try talking to them. You have nothing to lose: worst case, it gets ignored; best case, they respond to have a quick chat or at least they take note of your name and go look at your resume.
You've never written a cold email before so search this site for possible templates, pick one you like and tweak it to your situation, make sure its concise.
What would you say about emailing an employee to follow up on the application after applying through a headhunter? Before hearing whether you're getting an interview.
Sending Cold Calls/E-mails Before or After Submitting Structured App? (Originally Posted: 07/14/2017)
Hey all,
I understand that there's no time "too early" to be networking with IB employees via cold calls and e-mails. However, for someone like me who is seemingly late to the game, as I prepare to submit structured applications for these firms (i.e - JPM, BAML, GS), should I focus on networking before or after the submission? Does it matter?
Thanks, The Notorious
Cold email to head of dept after application (Originally Posted: 04/22/2016)
Hey guys I need some advice.
I applied for a position I am really keen on recently. HR emailed me last week to say they are still dealing with applications but will reach out soon.
I was thinking of emailing HR to push home my hunger for the role, but have got hold of the head traders email and wondered if I should cold email him instead. Thoughts on this? What should I say?
