Cold Emailing MD/D/VP after applying online

I recently applied to a position and didn't want to get stuck in the blackhole that is Taleo/online HR databases. I found an MD, D, and VP in the group and I have contacts within the company with access to the directory, so I can get their company email addresses.

Here's the question: should I email one of them? If so, which one? The content probably shouldn't steer towards directly asking for a job/interview. Anyone have advice on this?

Ah, well I've been in this spot and I'd suggest asking your contacts to see if they know anyone related/closer to the department you want. Using those new people you can get in touch with the people you want. I know it sounds tedious/long-winded but it worked for me.

If you havnt applied for the job yet... just get the contact information of the manager or who ever you want to get in contact with and simply ask them for an informational interview. DO NOT ASK FOR A JOB! Once your able to get in contact with them for a informational interview, ask questions about their back ground, insights and advice they can give you...etc. If the person likes you, hopefully they'll pass your resume along. Dont ask for them to pass it along, it never works if you ask.

An example may go like...

"Hello xyz,

Thank you for accepting my invitation on linkdin, honestly, I want to follow in your footsteps. I would be very appreciative if you could take some time out of your day, whenever you are free, for an informational interview. I would love to hear your insights and advice on the industry and gain from your experiences."

This is not a set in stone request, but atleast your not sounding to needy with all the please and thanks but you get the message across that your interested and just want to talk. Good luck homie.

Im out.
