College Choice for IB?
Hi Everyone,
Just want to start out this thread by apologizing for making it. I have seen several similar, but making this decision is hard and I wanted to hear the opinions of people in the industry before making a decision that could impact the rest of my life. So i apologize beforehand if threads like this are getting repetitive. Overall i want to go where i will get the best opportunities for Front Office investment banking positions given my options and i think this was the best place to ask that.
I don't want to get too deep into my "life story" but i basically didn't try in freshman year of high school so that has weighed down my high school career and really limited my options to "B" schools, although the upward trend in my grades from sophomore year on did help.
So now being spring i have heard back from basically all of my schools except for UMich (around a 40% of me getting in and if i do get in i will go there) and GWU ( I have a good shot at getting in but other schools on the list overshadow it).
So the schools on my list are:
Indiana University- Got in with a small scholarship and is probably one of the best options on the list because of the Investment Banking workshop which i hear places incredibly well.
CUNY Baruch- Got into the honors program so free college is great, If i was to go here i would try to transfer to NYU or a similar school.
Syracuse University- Got in with a strong scholarship, i have heard that this school has a decent presence on wall street not because of the quality of education and reputation but because rich, hooked up kids go there if they don't get in anywhere else and as a result a strong alumni network has developed. Still would have to network from day one to have a shot at anything from this school.
Penn State- Did not get any Scholarships here and it dosent seem to place well in finance so not really a option at this point although still there.
Fordham- Didn't get money here, I heard placement is not very good especially when you take into account the location.
Villanova- Was waitlisted, this would definitely be a contender if i was to get taken off the waitlist but this school is expensive and isn't too generous as far as scholarships go. It also has the "Villa-No-Fun" stigma so i think id rather go to Indiana where id pay $20k less to have more fun and comparable IB opportunities.
Your opinions would be greatly appreciated i know that a thread like this could be annoying but like i said the decision is so hard and i wanted the opinions of people in the industry, So i do apologize to anyone who is annoyed by this. Also with all of these schools if i do very well, transferring to better target schools is always an option i will keep open.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Def go Indiana. Second choice would be Baruch to NYU if you think that is feasible.
Syracuse will be an uphill battle the entire time. I come from a non-target so I know the challenge.
Don't know much about Nova.

Seconded on Indiana- I have seen a few guys from there at top shops. Baruch also places sometimes, though it may be due to gratuitous networking (being in NYC) versus alumni connections. PSU places a few people into FO but most firms primarily recruit for financial analyst/other non-revenue generating positions there. I know nothing about the rest of the schools.
Penn state is very solid contingent upon getting into their elite Wall Street club. I would put it ahead of anyone except maybe Indiana on your list.
Indiana is your best choice, but know that your chances of getting into IB are minimal if you don't get into their IB Workshop, and it's competitive.
IU is a great place to be. You will get "the" college xp with the sports, girls, parties while still going to a very reputable institution. My friends that go there have all landed on Wall St. The IU alumnus will bust their ass to get you a job if you bust yours in school. The buddies of mine ended up in BB banks working next to kids who went to lib arts schools with small student bodies and learned about theory. My thought is the IU kids had a lot more fun getting there, and ultimately at that point they have the same job.
