College student looking for advice on moving up into IB
Hi guys,
So I'm fairly new to the forum as you can see. I want to start out by introducing myself since this is my first post. My name is Danny and I'm currently in my junior year of college hoping to break into IB. I've been doing quite a bit of research on the forum since I've been here. Some of the past threads provide some incite to my questions but nothing to exactly fit situation. So I'm going to try and make this short and sweet so here we go.
I'm currently working part time at Chase as a bank teller, I had thought upon getting hired that this would be a good experience in finance. Unfortunately, I came to realize this not real experience that will help me on my journey to score a JPMorgan IB analyst internship. Due to my location there are not many opportunities to gain experience necessary to be able to compete with other interns that are attending top tier schools. So my question is should I leave the bank and look to find maybe an opportunity at a small investment boutique? Or should I stay where I'm at?
Also, my Aunt works at JPMorgan in corporate as a Senior Business Manager and her title is an Executive Director. Do you guys think that would help me out substantially?
Last question is while I am here at Chase I do have access to all employees of the firm I have looked up the IB campus recruiters through the company phone book. Do you think It would be inappropriate to contact them directly or do you think it would be very beneficial?
I have seen many members be very critical to new members post so hope I can get some good feedback without the harsh criticism.

Why don't you ask your Aunt if she can help you?
She is planning to speak to one of recruiters for me but the thing is I don't know what that will do for me. I was under the assumption the final decision in the selection for the interns is through the hiring manager. I'm a student at University of Florida which is the best school in Florida but it's no top tier University. My worries is they wouldn't even accept someone from a University such as mine.
I would also contact the recruiters directly. It can't hurt.
Network with school alumni and see what you can do. I don't know your situation in terms of your past experiences, GPA, or school, so it's hard to say what your chances are or if your school has a large finance base.
