Community college senior/ rising junior internship prospects.

Hi everyone, I am a senior at a community college transferring to a four year college in the fall. Graduating in May with an associates in business administration. My major at the four year school will be finance. What do you think are my chances of getting an internship this summer. I applied to JP Morgan chase finance leaders development summer program. Trying to formulate a solid cover letter.

Getting an internship is going to be difficult. Coming from a community college, especially as a sophomore, is going to make it hard to get a look from anywhere-- couple that with the fact that you probably don't have the experience that comes with a name-brand university (namely prominent clubs, exposure to professors who may have volunteer/job opps) and it is an uphill battle. I'd recommend emailing/calling PWM firms in your area if you want a finance related internship this summer. You can do the same for accounting firms, CPAs, whatever. Then, of course, you always have the typical business dev. or corporate finance internship for F500/other companies, but those will still be very competitive (and time is running out for those formal applications).

No problem. I'm currently in the process of doing the same thing-- graduating from CC this spring and going to a 4-year in the fall. None of those diversity/AA initiatives really apply to schools unfortunately, although it still leaves you with the ability to reach out to those who followed a similar path. Hopefully your shared background will make networking an easier process.

I had a similar situation. Wasnt at a CC, but a serous non target while I was in the Marines. Of course grades are important, but specifically grades at a semi or target school are going to show you are legit. Explain to them that you took classes at their because of your location due to military and that you did not take classes at a CC because you gaffed off high school. Make them be subjective to your situation and not view you as another non target dreamer. There are tons of vets to get in touch with that can help you. Just keep looking on this site, I was in a similar spot a yr ago and now thanks to listening to advice from folks on here I am set up nicely going forward.

Ha Im sure Berkeley is going to love you as a military vet. http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-march-10-200...

It was kind of painful listening to the things they said. I always felt that, for a place of learning, colleges never really exhibited a real understanding of Economic(even though many people teach it) or liberty. Always seemed like people only cared for certain liberties and not all.

surferbarney, I appreciate the reply and is that how you got your internship and did you get it the summer of your transfer?
